My 48lb dog ate a 10mg prednisone pill. Is it dangerous for her?

Probably one dose this high won't hurt but steroids have some very potent effects and side effects on the body. I would monitor her for any signs of illness like vomiting, diarrhea (both with or without blood), lethargy, decreased appetite, etc. If these develop I would call your veterinarian and discuss what is going on. You will see an increased thirst, increased urination, increased appetite, increased panting, and possibly some behavioral changes. Watch her closely and always consult with your vet before medicating your own pet.

Hi, The levels of concern for estrogen are dosages > 1mg/kg. In this case as I can understand from your question the dog ingested 2 tablets of 2 mg estradiol which is a total of 4 mg estradiol. If we devide the 4 mg by the dog weight 25 kg we get a dose of 0.16 mg/kg ingested which is much lower level than 1 mg/kg. So if these are the right details it is not at the toxic range (of bone marrow suppression). Just keep it in cupboard or a drawer away from Loli.

I normally do not exceed 60mg daily regardless of the size of the dog just because of the potential side effects such as gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding as well as the undesirable side effects you describe. I recommend you bring up your concerns to the prescribing veterinarian who knows the case well, to taper his dose down slowly. It is important to not discontinue or lower too much this medication acutely as problems can arise with this approach. For now, look for any evidence of gastrointestinal bleeding such as black, tarry stools. If observed, let your veterinarian know right away. Good luck with your boy!
