My dog ate potato chips and is wheezing and crying. Is he okay?

A small chip will likely not result in anything more than some minor gastrointestinal upset, if any. GI upset, with no other symptoms can usually be managed at home with a 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet until symptoms resolve. Always keep human foods out of reach and limit table scraps to occasional small tidbits, if at all.

Lays BBQ chips are delicious, but that is a lot of chips for a dog to eat! My first concern would be that Max could get pancreatitis from it. This is a severe inflammation of the pancreas that occurs when a dog eats too much fat, and chips are unfortunately fatty. If he ate them within the past two hours, I would take him into a vet immediately to have vomiting induced to prevent him from getting pancreatitis. If it's been longer than two hours since he ate them, you will have monitor him for signs of pancreatitis. These signs include vomiting, hunched back, painful abdomen, vomiting undigested food, distension of the abdomen, loss of appetite, diarrhea, and lethargy. Hello, you should only attempt to induce vomiting with peroxide twice. If the potato was not moldy then Jody should be fine. He may have some diarrhea which may require anti-diarrhea medications, but otherwise, there are no toxins you need to worry about. If he did not chew the potato then this may be more of a problem as it could be too big and may cause an obstruction. If you think that he did not chew the potato or if you think the potato may have been moldy, then you can bring him to your veterinarian to have them induce vomiting and take radiographs tonight. Otherwise, you can monitor him at home for any vomiting, diarrhea or decreased appetite and have him evaluated by your veterinarian if he does develop any of these tomorrow. If Layla is clinically normal, you can consider monitoring her, especially since it has been many hours since she ingested the potato. It is possible that she will digest the potato or pass it. No worries. Potatoes and the skin are not toxic to pets, even raw. Maddie should be just fine. At the worse she may have a little upset stomach, in which case you can give her some bland chicken and rice or cottage cheese for a few days and she should be back to normal in no time.
