This should be just fine. I expect that he may have a little intestinal upset from the grease in the chip, but he won't have gotten enough salt or onion to do him any harm.Keep an eye on him and if he does start feeling sick, get him in to see the vet right away. I've seen lots of cats steal chips and do just fine. Just try to keep them out of his reach.

There are no toxicity concerns with sweet potatoes in cats, With any new food, some animals that may have a sensitive digestive tract may have GI upset including diarrhea and vomiting.
