My dog ate pasta, is vomiting and drooling. Is it an emergency?

Hello! My pup ate some pasta that had fallen on the floor containing nothing more than just cheese and tomato sauce really. It’s been about 5 hours since and he has been vomiting stomach fluids and drooling. What should I do?

I’m sorry to hear about Little! I am surprised to hear about this reaction to some spaghetti but I suppose it is possible if he has a very sensitive tummy. I am more concerned that the vomiting has nothing to do with the spaghetti. Was there anything else he could have gotten into? (Trash? Medications? Chemicals/glue/paint? Socks? Other materials?) And the second question that crosses my mind is: did Little receive his full set of puppy vaccines? Could this be parvo or some other thing going on?

Moral of the story, if Little has been vomiting for 5 hours, it’s time to take him into the emergency vet to get him checked out. They may offer x-rays, bloodwork, or a parvo test (if warranted). Even if you pursue no teating, the vet can give medications for the nausea/vomiting and determine if Little is dehydrated or not.

If he vomited a couple times but has since just been drooling and otherwise seems ok, pick up the food and water and monitor. Reintroduce water 4 hours after the vomiting episode and a small meal 12 hours after vomiting episode. If he vomits again, head to the overnight vet clinic.

    The spaghetti may be the culprit as it may have upset his stomach. Many other things can also cause vomiting in puppies though, some more serious then others. Ingestion of anything else unusual (missing toys, etc)? Because he has had multiple days of vomiting with a decreased appetite he really needs to see a vet. At this point he may be becoming dehydrated. That way your vet can figure out what is going on and provide treatment to stop the vomiting and make him feel better. My dog ate Italian dressing and is drooling. Is it an emergency?
Italian dressing often contains onion or garlic, which can be toxic to dogs. Toxicity signs can be visible even after 24-48 hours since ingestion. The safest (and recommended) option is to take her to your veterinarian for a check-up. If this is not an option at this moment, please withhold food for the next 4-6 hours and then start feeding back again with some chicken and boiled rice in small portions every 4-6 hours. If the signs persist or she is displaying other signs such as diarrhea, lethargy, inappetence or more vomiting, I would suggest taking her to the nearest ER right away.

Puppy vomiting, not eating, took Imodium. Is it an emergency?
It sounds as Japjap is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet urgently, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

If Little is doing as poorly as you describe, this is a medical emergency and she needs to see a vet right away. She could be seriously injured and in pain, and it's concerning that she won't move and has trouble walking. There is nothing you can do for her at home, she has to have veterinary care right away. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

It is not an emergency in this precise moment unless Lucy is lethargic and uncomfortable. I would recommend that she is checked over first thing in the morning or as soon as your vet is open as she will benefit with some medications that promote gut motility and some pain relief, as well as symptomatical treatment for the diarrhoea. She could also start to be dehydrated, so I would really suggest for her to be checked over.

Oh no, that was naughty of Oliver to eat those greens! Certain varieties of the lily are toxic to dog, and eating these varieties can cause GI upset, anorexia, and tremors. You have seen some GI upset, and I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps him. Withhold food for 8-12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

Hello, thank you for your question about Spaz. Excessive drooling is often a sign of nausea in dogs, which would go hand in hand with the vomiting. Vomiting can be a sign of many possible underlying causes such as problems within the GI tract (ingestion of foreign material, inflammation, infection) or systemic disease. Since Spaz only had one episode of vomiting so far you could continue to monitor him for any further episodes of vomiting or other symptoms. If the vomiting continues or Spaz develops any additional symptoms I would recommend having him seen by a veterinarian. They can examine him and discuss the need for additional diagnostics such as systemic bloodwork or abdominal x-rays. Hope this helps, good luck!
