My dog ate Italian dressing and is drooling. Is it an emergency?

I’m sorry to hear about Little! I am surprised to hear about this reaction to some spaghetti but I suppose it is possible if he has a very sensitive tummy. I am more concerned that the vomiting has nothing to do with the spaghetti. Was there anything else he could have gotten into? (Trash? Medications? Chemicals/glue/paint? Socks? Other materials?) And the second question that crosses my mind is: did Little receive his full set of puppy vaccines? Could this be parvo or some other thing going on? Moral of the story, if Little has been vomiting for 5 hours, it’s time to take him into the emergency vet to get him checked out. They may offer x-rays, bloodwork, or a parvo test (if warranted). Even if you pursue no teating, the vet can give medications for the nausea/vomiting and determine if Little is dehydrated or not. If he vomited a couple times but has since just been drooling and otherwise seems ok, pick up the food and water and monitor. Reintroduce water 4 hours after the vomiting episode and a small meal 12 hours after vomiting episode. If he vomits again, head to the overnight vet clinic. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Snickers should be absolutely fine. There likely isn't enough garlic / onion to cause any major problems. If you begin to notice that he is vomiting or having diarrhea but normal otherwise, I would recommend starting him on a bland diet for 3-5 days and then transition back to the regular diet. This may cause a bit of stomach upset for Riley, which could be why he's breathing a bit heavier at the moment. Italian dressing does contain garlic and onion, both of which are toxic to cats, but he won't have consumed enough to cause any problems. I'd keep an eye on him for now. If he starts vomiting, has diarrhea, stops eating, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, is very lethargic, and/or starts open mouth breathing, he needs to see a vet immediately. It certainly sounds like Bella could have gotten into something toxic and it is a medical emergency. When a dog walks like they are drunk, that can be a sign of antifreeze ingestion. Depending on what she ate, she could diet without veterinary treatment and it is imperative that she is seen by a vet now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Koda! My biggest concern is the butter more than the garlic especially now that she is vomiting. High amounts of fat can cause severe gastro-intestinal upset and/or pancreatitis. Pancreatitis can be mild (just vomiting, diarrhea, not eating) to very severe. Garlic causes oxidative damage to the red blood cells causing an anemia. A lot of it probably could cause stomach upset. Since it has been 12 hours and now she is coughing I would get her seen as soon as possible by your Vet. Good luck!

You may continue to monitor Coco for now to make sure that he does not develop any vomiting. If it resolves then he should be ok and there is no need for further evaluation of this.
