My dog drools a lot and just vomited. Should I call the vet?

If your dog is lethargic and vomiting these two things in combination are reason to seek veterinary care, as your dog is likely dehydrated and may need fluid therapy via an IV catheter or subcutaneous fluids. If he has just started vomiting or has only vomited a couple times, you can try fasting him (nothing orally, no food or water) to let his stomach settle and then slowly reintroducing fluids and then a bland diet such as plain cooked white rice and boiled chicken breast. If despite this he continues to vomit, he becomes weak, he has blood in his vomit or stool, or is painful in his abdomen then seek veterinary care. Drooling can be a sign of nausea or pain. Since she threw up and and is now not drooling, I would monitor her for further changes. If the drooling returns or she continues to vomit then i would get her seen. Also watch her appetite and monitor her stool for any diarrhea.

If he has indeed produced vomit (as apposed to retching without getting anything up), and he’s drooling but playful, it’s reasonable to give him through the night and see how he is in the morning. The drooling is probably because he’s nauseous. Drooling can be a sign of nausea and this with a decreased activity level can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Rufus evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. He may have ingested something he was not supposed to such as lizard or frog or sticks or getting into garbage. If they pant or drool excessively with their mouth open, they can ingest a lot of air to gas bloating. Drooling can also be a sign of nausea or pain. IF there is abdominal cramping from all the gas it can cause more drooling and nausea. The best thing to do is have them to continue to monitor him to make sure his pain in controlled and monitor for vomiting and make sure the gas dissolves and continues to be passed and does not cause pancreatitis or an ileus.
