My dog ate my leather wallet. Is it dangerous? What should I do?

At this stage feeding bulky food and monitoring is the best way to go. Signs of intestinal blockage are obvious and you will be able to notice them right away. Dogs with a blockage go off their food, vomit and show abdominal pain. They become weak and lethargic. What is also very important, dogs with a blockage are not passing any stools (soemtimes they try to pass but they are not able to). So, for now keep any eye on your dog and if you see any of these signs get in touch with your way right away. He is a large dog, so there is a good chance that he will pass the piece of leather in his stools.

Oh no, that's not good that Boone ate your laces. Hopefully these will pass without problem, but there is a chance they could become stuck in his GI tract and cause a linear foreign body. I would monitor him for signs of obstruction, which include vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, and lethargy. Should you see any of those signs, I would take Boone into the vet right away. If the laces becomes stuck, he will need surgery to remove them.

So sorry for your shoes! It really depends how large the pieces were when they went down. If he tore it into pieces, which I would expect, then it may cause a GI upset but unlikely to cause an obstruction. The best thing to do is monitor him for any vomiting or diarrhea as this can be signs if a problem. There is no need to take him anywhere right now

Hi and thanks for posting! Any type of foreign object or material ingested has the potential to cause a problem. However, from the picture, it doesn't looks like very much was torn off from the rug placer. These small pieces Loki ate may very well pass on their own without causing an issue, however, I would be on the look out for signs of a possible problem brewing such as frequent vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite and lethargy. Glad to hear that he is doing well right now. I wouldn't expect eating this would cause allergies but it certainly could cause an obstruction especially if he ate too much of it. I would try to tell him not to chew on it if possible. If he doesn't it while you aren't around, I would consider putting him somewhere else unless he can be supervised. If you notice any lethargy, vomiting or not eating, I would have your vet take a look at him to ensure he isn't obstructed. I hope this helps!

With him being a large breed dog he will likely be fine and pass it but I would monitor him closely for not eating, vomiting or diarrhea. If you notice any of these signs then I would see your vet for an exam and possible abdominal X-rays. You can also add some canned food to his diet to help bulk up how stool to help him pass it. Hi, it is probably safer to have him checked over. He could be having gastritis or it could be that pieces of the leather belt are causing a partial obstruction. Your vet will be able to tell what’s the best way forwards after having him checked over. Hope all goes well !
