My dog ate leather. Should I worry about a blockage or will he pass it?

These are not very digestible, so it may be somewhat concerning depending on the size of it. It's a good sign that he was able to swallow it, because these tend to get stuck in the throat when they are too big. The biggest concern is that the rawhide will get stuck in the intestines. These blockages can cause life-threatening complications. However, most dogs are able to pass various sized objects through their intestines without any problem. Signs of a blockage include vomiting, not defecating and a dramatic decrease in activity. If you notice any of these signs, then it would be best to take Kane to the vet for further evaluation. Otherwise, this should be passed in the stool within the next 3-5 days. I hope that helps and all is well with Kane.

Well that was naughty of Teddy to eat the rug. If he has since eaten well with no vomiting and continues to not vomit, have a normal appetite and use the bathroom fine, he should be ok. Signs of an obstruction are continuous vomiting (even water), lack of appetite, scant (small) feces and lethargy (decreased energy level). I hope that Teddy is able to pass the rug pieces well. If he chewed it well then chances of him passing it are really good. He may have an upset stomach though, at which time you can try a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese to see if it settles things down. If he chewed it into small enough bits, it may pass on its own. If he swallowed big chunks, there is a risk of obstruction. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. Seek veterinary attention if Cody develops any of these symptoms.

If he chewed them well then there is a good chance he won't get a blockage. Especially if the rawhides were labeled as easily digestible. Try offering him 1 slice of bread and a soft canned food diet for the next couple of days. Offer him plenty of water and take him on 20-30 minute brisk walks twice a day to encourage GI motility and the passage of the raw hides. Then monitor Chopper for the next 24-72 hrs for any signs of blockage which includes: excessive vomiting (even water), lack of appetite, few feces, and abdominal pain. Best case scenario is that he will just have an upset stomach (mild vomiting and/or diarrhea) that will improve with a bland diet (boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese) after a few days time.

Trick did eat a good size piece of vet wrap! Hopefully, it will pass through without problem, but I would monitor him to be safe for signs of obstruction just in case. These signs include vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, lethargy, and constipation. If you see any of those signs, I would take Trick into the vet right away. If he is a larger dog, it should pass without problem, but it's always good to observe him to be safe.

Oh no, that's not good that Boone ate your laces. Hopefully these will pass without problem, but there is a chance they could become stuck in his GI tract and cause a linear foreign body. I would monitor him for signs of obstruction, which include vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, and lethargy. Should you see any of those signs, I would take Boone into the vet right away. If the laces becomes stuck, he will need surgery to remove them.

You can monitor her closely for signs consistent with a gastrointestinal obstruction such as vomiting, nausea, inappetence and abdominal pain.
