My dog ate couch leather. Could it cause allergies or health problems?

At this stage feeding bulky food and monitoring is the best way to go. Signs of intestinal blockage are obvious and you will be able to notice them right away. Dogs with a blockage go off their food, vomit and show abdominal pain. They become weak and lethargic. What is also very important, dogs with a blockage are not passing any stools (soemtimes they try to pass but they are not able to). So, for now keep any eye on your dog and if you see any of these signs get in touch with your way right away. He is a large dog, so there is a good chance that he will pass the piece of leather in his stools.

If he chewed it into small enough bits, it may pass on its own. If he swallowed big chunks, there is a risk of obstruction. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. Seek veterinary attention if Cody develops any of these symptoms.

Hi, it is probably safer to have him checked over. He could be having gastritis or it could be that pieces of the leather belt are causing a partial obstruction. Your vet will be able to tell what’s the best way forwards after having him checked over. Hope all goes well !

If Zoe did not eat a lot, this likely will pass without problem. There is a chance it could cause an obstruction or GI upset, so monitor her for signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or anorexia. If you see any of those signs, have her seen by a vet. Best of luck.

Oops sorry that happened! Thanks for reaching out. Stuffing from furniture like sofas can cause gastrointestinal distress including gastrointestinal obstruction. Signs you'll want to keep an eye out for are vomiting, unable to keep food or water down, regurgitating shortly after meals, inappetence, and diarrhea. Please take Murphy to see his veterinarian if you notice any of those concerning signs.

Most likely if he was chewing on the cartridge, he would have punctured it and have evidence of ink in his mouth. Its possible, though seems very unlikely, that he could have swallowed it whole. If he isn't showing any symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, etc, then you don't need to take him to a vet tonight, but you can take him in tomorrow for an xray to see if it looks like there may be pieces of the cartridge present. I do not see any need to worry at this time. If it was stuck in his throat, then he would be continually gagging and coughing. There is also not much of a chance it would be causing problems in the stomach or intestines, because these are digestible. Signs of a blockage are: not eating, not pooping, vomiting, and acting very depressed/painful. If you happen to see these signs, then this would warrant an urgent trip to the vet. Otherwise, he seems to be doing OK, so I wouldn't be concerned. I hope that helps and all is well with Coby.
