My dog ate garlic butter 12 hrs ago, now puking/coughing. Emergency?

However, garlic and butter both can affect her in different ways, especially by causing gastrointestinal symptoms like the vomiting. If you think she ate a large amount, she should be evaluated right away as that can be a significant toxicity. Also, begonias are very toxic to dogs sometimes resulting in kidney failure so if she ate any, she should be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. It is likely that she will be ok as there is likely not enough garlic in the amount she licked to cause serious life threatening side effects. You may see vomiting or diarrhea, but this should resolve after 24-48 hours. If Cuddles becomes lethargic, is vomiting blood, inappetant, etc. then I would recommend having her examined by a veterinarian. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! However, in reality this should be a very small amount and he should be fine even without inducing vomiting as this was a very small amount. Good luck and have a great day!

Garlic toxicity causes anemia and signs of it wouldn't show up this fast. I'm concerned it's the breadstick itself that has upset Skye's stomach. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she refuses to eat the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. I would take Zeus into a vet immediately. Garlic is toxic to dogs, and because the garlic was a powder, it would be even more concentrated and take less of it to cause toxic symptoms. Toxic symptoms can include vomiting, which you are seeing, and garlic toxicity leads to anemia. Please take Zeus into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see him now for treatment.

If she is having a hard time breathing, I would recommend having a veterinarian examining her sooner than in the morning. She may have a severe case of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) from eating all of that food and may need to be hospitalized for treatment. This may result though in gastrointestinal upset. Watch your pup for symptoms consistent with gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting, inappetence and/or diarrhea.
