My dog ate human vomit with alcohol. Will it harm or poison him?

Unless a dog oes this every day, it is unlikely that it will affect it other than possib;y giving the dog diarrhea or making it vomit also. As for any rest alcohol, there probably isn't enough to damagee the dog or make it drunk.

This may cause some GI upset which may result in vomiting and/or diarrhea. If it is limited to a couple of bouts and she's back to normal in 12 hours or so, you don't need to worry. Just keep an eye on her for the next 12-24 hours, and if she develops vomiting or diarrhea that is severe or continuous, or if she becomes increasingly lethargic, seek emergency care.

Because we do not know what the other animal was vomiting it is always possible that they could become ill (for example if the other animal had ingested a toxin or had a virus). That being said, there isn't really anything you can do right now for your dog other than monitor him closely. If he begins acting lethargic/weak, has vomiting or diarrhea or anorexia, or begins having trembling/muscle tremors or acting drunk/ataxic, then I would recommend seeking veterinary care. Luckily most of the time, however, dogs do not get ill in a situation such as this.

Your dog licking a very small amount of alcohol should not cause him any serious harm, although depending on the alcohol content it may cause him to become slightly drunk. This can cause wobbliness/ataxia, lethargy, vomiting. If you notice any of these signs, he should be seen by a veterinarian. Otherwise, he should be OK, and I recommend requesting that your mom not leave any alcohol within Chewy's reach! I hope this is helpful!

The problem is the alcohol. Signs of alcohol toxicity are drooling, retching, vomiting or attempting to vomit, weakness, elevated heart rate, a distended stomach, collapse, coma hypothermia and in severe intoxication cases, death. Alcohol enters the blood stream very quickly, and once it is in the blood stream the only thing you can do is wait it out, ie wait until it is out of his system. Keep Cooper confined and watch him closely. If he shows any of the signs above or if he gets white mucus membranes, he needs to be taken to a pet ER. If you live close to a pet ER, you can take him there and the vets can make him vomit and thus get rid of the rest of the vodka still in the stomach and they may give activated charcoal to neutralise the alcohol in the stomach.

I suspect the two events are not related since t was 6 hours later. Just like humans, there are many many causes of vomiting and some of the causes can be very serious. Any pet vomiting beyond 24 hours should be examined by the veterinarian. I recommend to have Hershey examined if needed. I know this is a very worrying time for you, but you did completely the right thing in taking the dog to the vet so quickly. If you had him vomit within 40 minutes then the majority of the gastric contents and the noxious substance will have come up. Sometimes I would also administer activated charcoal but it isn't strictly necessary when they vomit a good lot up. The medication that the vet gave you will help to line the stomach in case the substance has damaged the lining, the other medication is a liver support as it deals with a lot of potentially toxic substances. There really isn't much more you can do aside from being vigilant. If you knew exactly what the dog ingested sometimes other drugs can be administered such as vitamin k in rat poisoning. However your dog should be absolutely fine considering how quick you acted. You could feed Blue some liver as it helps with regenerating red blood cells etc. Best of luck, if you have any concerns at all please ask!
