My dog ate EnteDerm. Is it safe? What to do if vets are closed?

Hello! Fortunately that is a very safe medication that we even use in dogs. It can cause some vomiting and diarrhea that usually goes away on its own. Watch closely for signs of dehydration if vomiting occurs and if there are any significant behavior changes that concern you, than a vet visit would be warranted.

At worst, you may see some vomiting and/or diarrhea. These can typically be managed at home with a 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Transition slowly to the regular diet afterwards. Symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian include lethargy, persistent stomach upset, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.

Depending on the amount that was in the tube, you may see vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, bloody stool, abdominal pain or excessive thirst/urination. The tube itself presents another issue since it can cause obstruction or internal injury. Ideally, Mia should be examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. Induction of vomiting may be contraindicated since the tube may cause damage coming up. After a physical exam, the vet can determine the best course of action to retrieve or remove the tube while treating any symptoms.

This is unlikely to cause a problem. She may make have some drooling, bu otherwise it shouldn’t be an issue. If she has a reaction to the medication for some reason, she may have some vomiting or develop hives or facial swelling. If these things occur, take her in, but it’s reasonable to just keep an eye on her at home. If she swallowed the tube or big pieces of the tube, an intestinal obstruction is possible (though not necessarily likely). Transition slowly tot the regular diet afterwards. Monitor for persistent vomiting/diarrhea, extreme lethargy, loss of appetite or wobbly gait. These symptoms should be addressed by your veterinarian.
