Is EnteDerm ointment safe to use on my other dog's skin scabs?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Lover Boy! yes you can use the EnteDerm. But I would also use an E-collar to prevent licking of the toe and the cream. Since cats groom we do not want the product to be ingested. if the toe isn't improving he should be examined by a Vet. Also wash the foot before applying the cream to remove litter and dirt. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry Charlie is having this problem. It is likely a contact rash and not usually a terribly threatening issue. I would recommend bathing him in your regular shampoo with a good rinse after. If it is very itchy-Benadryl is generally accepted as safe for dogs and you can find a dosing for this medication online by searching the Merck Veterinary Manual. Triple antibiotic ointment is considered safe topically if your pet is not allowed to ingest any of it as well. If the rash spreads further or worsens quickly or you notice any other issues or abnormal behaviors besides this rash-generally this then warrants a trip to your vet to stave off symptoms and be treated for a potential reaction. HI, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Summer! Your Vet has tried a lot. My suggestion at this point is to see a dermatologist. I would have him on Nexgard or Bravecto to cover fleas, demodex and scabies despite the injections. I would start an omega 3 fish oil (see link). I would also do several seeks of an antibiotic and antiyeast. I would also use cytopoint. The dermatolgist can do skin testing as well for environmental allergies. You can try a thin layer of the quadriderm cream on the areas once daily but he can not lick it so you have to use an E-collar. It also will only help the symptoms you see not the underlying cause of his allergies. Do not use it for more than 1 week. Hello and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. While I don't think this is an emergency, I would get Nemo in to see a veterinarian as soon as you can. I strongly suspect that there is an infection in his skin and he is probably very uncomfortable. Until you can take him to the vet I would clean the area with an antiseptic solution such as dilute betadine (to the color of weak tea) or hibiclens. Both of these should be available at your local drug store. Then dry it well and apply a thin layer of topical triple antibiotic ointment. Do this twice daily. I hope that Nemo feels better soon!

Please, take your Charlie to your local vets for an appointment as he will likely need treatment with skin ointment with antibiotic and/or anti-inflammatory agent.

At worst, you may see some GI upset (vomiting and/or diarrhea). If this happened recently, you can rinse her mouth with cool water for at least 15 minutes then dry her thoroughly. If she vomits once or twice yet is behaving normally, you can try withholding food for 24 hours then feeding a bland diet for a few days. Transition slowly to her regular diet afterwards. In the meantime, monitor for lethargy, persistent vomiting/diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. These are symptoms that would need to be addressed by a veterinarian at the nearest veterinary ER.

Most ear ointments are a little oily or thick in order to stay in contact with the skin inside the ear canal as long as possible, so it is absolutely normal to feel the ointment in the ear later on. I usually recommend a cleaning solution along with ointment, and you can ask your vet if there is a cleaning solution that they recommend to use to clear out the remaining ointment before applying the next dose. I also would get an E-collar (or "cone") for Norman to prevent him from scratching his ear so that he doesn't cause any additional trauma. You should definitely continue to ointment to continue treating the infection, stopping could make the infection worse and more difficult to treat in the future.
