My dog ate a cactus plant and is throwing up. Is this an emergency?

If he drinks it and keeps it down, you can give him small amount of bland food (for example boiled chicken or you can continue with his gastrointestinal wet food). If he keeps that down you should continue offering him small portions of this food every 4-6hrs for 24hrs. After that you can go back to his regular food.

Oh no, how naughty of Hunny! Fortunately, cacti are not toxic to dogs. However, there could be issues with the spines of the cactus causing irritation or even perforation of the esophagus, stomach, or intestines if they are a substantial size. Since you are describing a small cactus, it seems unlikely that Hunny will experience any significant issues associated with this ingestion. At this point, make sure that she is eating, drinking, and acting normally without any coughing, gagging, or vomiting. It can cause gastro-intestinal upset, labored breathing, eye discharge and sometimes neurologic problems. The most common signs are stomach upset: vomiting, diarrhea, not eating. I am hoping that Buddy's symptoms are mild. If he is eating and has stopped vomiting I would feed him a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day for 3-5 days. If he won't eat or is still vomiting he should see a Vet today for supportive care. I hope this helps and I wish Buddy the best!

If he keeps it down, you can offer more water and small amount of bland food (cooked chicken or other lean meat) in the next 1-2hrs. If he is taking the food and keeping all down you should give him more every 2-3hrs. However, if Chapo continues to vomit, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment today. Vomiting in otherwise healthy dog is usually caused by stomach upset from gastrointestinal infection, inflamed pancreas, abdominal pain.

The signs you are describing can be caused by dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, bloat, or a number of parasitic infections results in nausea. Some of these conditions are potentially life threatening, so I recommend having Bullet seen by a vet as soon as possible. This may be due to gastrointestinal upset which may resolve on its own. Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. You should start offering him small amount of water about 1.5-2hrs after the had the tablets. Start with 2-3 tablespoon of water and if he drinks it and keeps it down, you can slowly increase the volume of water every 45-60 minutes. If he is not sick after water, you can introduce some bland food, for example cooked chicken or white fish and give that to him every 2-3 hrs. You can add a bit of rice or pasta into it. If everything goes well, you should be able to put him back on his regular food within 24-48hrs.
