My puppy ate a cactus. Will she be okay? Is it toxic for dogs?

Fortunately most cacti are not toxic but they can cause stomach and intestinal irritation leading to vomiting and diarrhea. I would with hold water for 6 hours then restart with sips of water frequently. I would fast for 12 hours and if there is not vomiting during the fast or with the small amounts of water then start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice as small frequent meals for a few days. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day. If the vomiting is excessive or he won't eat I'd have your Vet examine him. Have a great weekend!

Mother in law's tongue could cause oral irritation or vomiting, but I would expect you would have seen signs by now if Katie was going to be affected. There would be no lasting effects. Christmas cactus is non-toxic. If Katie vomits or starts drooling I would recommend seeing a veterinarian for symptomatic and supportive care. Pine needles and bark are not toxic, but the needles contain some oil that can cause irritation to the the stomach. You may see a decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. If these occur for longer than 24 hours, Luna should see a vet for treatment. If she eats a large amount of bark and/or pine needles, it could cause more severe damage internally and potentially cause painful constipation. If she seems in distress when trying to have a bowel movement, she should see a vet for treatment. I would try to prevent her from eating this. You can try to fence off the shrub, take Luna out on a leash, or remove the shrub. It is possible that she will outgrow it, but this breed tends to get themselves into trouble by eating inappropriate things for several years!

Dogs will be dogs! Hyacinth bulbs and the entire tulip family aren't extremely toxic to dogs, but if consumed in large enough quantities they can cause GI upset and even some cardiorespiratory changes. In this case, if only one bulb was chew (not even swallowed) and you have yet to see any clinical signs, you probably shouldn't spend too much time worrying about it. If you want to be really careful, you can certainly go to the vet and start Cali on a decontamination protocol. This would certainly be the safest option but might be unnecessary. Inducing vomiting at this point in time would be pointless as the stomach has already moved anything that was eaten down into the intestines. You might also consider calling up the pet poison helpline and speak with the toxicology experts over there. They know their stuff and deal with this kind of thing every single day. Hope this helps. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would not be too worried about this. The most that would happen would be that Nudge would get an upset stomach. An upset stomach can lead to diarrhea and vomiting which are usually self-limiting (meaning they will resolve on their own within 12-36 hours). If she begins showing any signs of an upset stomach that don't resolve in that time period then you should take her to your vet for treatment. Capsicum (cayenne) is not toxic to dogs. They may have to be removed under sedation if they are bothering your puppy. Please, take Loki to your local vets for an appointment. Your vet may recommend sedation to assess the mouth and the throat for presence of the spikes.

Hello, and thank you for your question. Hachi is an adorable pup! If a puppy ingests a large quantity of the cotton stuffing, it may create a blockage in his stomach or intestines which is considered an emergency. If you are unsure of how much he ingested, I would take him to the vet now to check for a blockage. If the cotton was ingested less than 1 hour ago, they may even be able to induce him to vomit in order to throw up the cotton. I hope this helps, and that Hachi is doing okay!
