I'm sorry to hear that Chief got into trouble today! The amount of garlic you are describing should not cause toxicity for a dog as big as Chief. Just keep an eye on him for any tummy upset (vomiting, diarrhea, off his food) or lethargy, and if these occur have him seen by your veterinarian.

Though more toxic in cats we can see symptoms in dogs from onions and garlic. Most commonly though we will see vomiting and diarrhea. More sever symptoms include abdominal pain, inappetance, collapse, increased heart rate, etc. I would monitor for the next 24 hours and feed a bland diet as outlined below. Feed this for the next 3-5 days and then transition back to the normal diet. If you notice any new symptoms, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Falcon so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! 1/2 of a tsp of garlic powder or 2 whole garlic cloves would potentially be toxic if ingested, so if you think that it is possible that the spaghetti had that amount in the bowl you should see an emergency veterinarian. Otherwise there is no concern. Garlic and garlic powder tend to be more toxic if ingested consistently over a long period of time; it generally takes a lot to cause toxicity if it is a one time ingestion.

You're correct in that both onions and garlic are toxic to dogs, but I wouldn't worry at all about the negligible amount that your dog is getting. At 50 pounds, she would need to eat about 4 teaspoons of onion powder in order to experience the blood cell changes associated with onion toxicosis. I can't imagine that that much onion powder would be in a quart or so of the broth, let alone 1/4 cup. With that said, I generally err on the side of caution and prefer avoiding feeding both onions and garlic whenever possible. There is a natural chemical found on quinoa that can be irritating to the intestines in both humans and dogs if unwashed. But it's only present in very small amounts.
