My dog ate a beef stock cube with onion powder. Is it toxic?

My black lab has eaten a human beef stock pot cube - one ingredient is onion powder and i’m just winding myself up with concern

A large breed dog would need to ingest about 2 tsp of onino powder for it to be considered toxic. If there is this much in the beef stock pot cube, then I would air on the side of caution and get Treacle seen by your vet asap. Symptoms of onion toxicity are: Depression, inappetence, tachypnea, tachycardia, weakness, exercise intolerance, icterus, and red to brown colored urine may occur.
I hope that Treacle didn't ingest that much. If you are having a hard time figuring out how much is in hte pot cube, then repost your question with the ingredients list and serving size, we may be able to figure this out for you.

You're correct in that both onions and garlic are toxic to dogs, but I wouldn't worry at all about the negligible amount that your dog is getting. At 50 pounds, she would need to eat about 4 teaspoons of onion powder in order to experience the blood cell changes associated with onion toxicosis. I can't imagine that that much onion powder would be in a quart or so of the broth, let alone 1/4 cup. With that said, I generally err on the side of caution and prefer avoiding feeding both onions and garlic whenever possible. Generally, dogs need to consume at least 5% of their body weight to develop onion toxicosis. This means that Bambi will have needed to consume about 50g of onion powder to show clinical signs off illness. If you think she may have consumed this amount or if you have concerns, you should take her to an emergency veterinarian.

My dog ate a tiny piece of onion. Is it toxic? What should I do?

The dose of onion in dogs that is toxic is about 0.5 grams per kilogram of body weight. For a 10 pound dog, that would be about 20 grams of onion. There are about 5 grams in each teaspoon, so Marlin would have to eat over 4 tsp of onions in order to be concerned about toxicity. The biggest concern comes with dehydrated onions which are much more concentrated than fresh onions. It sounds like Marlin will be fine, but please contact your veterinarian if you have any concerns. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is unlikely to be an issue in terms of the garlic and onion powder as it was just a bit. This may result though in gastrointestinal upset. Watch your pup for symptoms consistent with gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting, inappetence and/or diarrhea. Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! The amount of onion and the size of Paddy should not cause any clinical symptoms associated with toxicity. You may see GI signs such as vomiting / diarrhea. My small dog ate onion and garlic powder. What should I do now?

Onion toxicosis is consistently noted in animals that ingest more than 0.5% of their body weight in onions at one time. Garlic is 5 times more powerful than the onion. Considering the fact that the quantity is unknown I think the best course of action would be to take Taquito to your veterinarian to make him sick and give medication to reduce absorption of the toxics.
