My dog ate a bee. Does she need Benadryl or emergency vet?

This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling becomes too large or if your dog becomes lethargic, take him to the vet in order to get an antihistamine/steroid injection. from your description at this moment i think he is probably fine, but this can change so monitor him closely.

You can proactively give benadryl to hopefully prevent any type of reaction leading to swelling. That would not hurt. But, if he is doing OK, you can try giving 1.5 tablets of the children's 12.5 MG tablet benadryl to help with histamine release. If he begins to swell, have hives, or trouble breathing, he would need to go in.

Hi there. Sorry this happened to Daisy. Yes, I would take her to a vet. It sounds like she is getting worse and not better. The vet will give her something stronger than Benadryl that will stop the reaction. You already gave her a pretty high dose of Benadryl for her size so if that isn't working it likely is not going to. It is better to be safe than sorry! I hope this helps. Best wishes!

Oh no! So this dose is over twice the recommended dose for a dog her weight. Unfortunately, the lethal dose for oral diphenhydramine (Benadryl) in dogs has not been studied, but it's believed the minimum needed could be as few as four tablets according to a study published in 2014 in the Canadian Veterinary Journal. It would be best for you to take your dog into the vet now to have vomiting induced. While it is only two tablets, because the lethal dose hasn't been determined, it's better to be safe than sorry. I would find a vet on call to see her now, or take her into an ER vet.

Check for any injuries or sting marks. If there are puncture wounds that ooze blood this may be a snake bite and you need to take Rikke to a vet right away. If it is an allergic reaction and not a swollen face due to snake bite, or a tooth root abscess or injury in the mouth or obstructed salivary duct or swollen salivary gland, then you can try Benadryl. Hello and thank you for your post! Looking at your photos, the first picture is the one I am concerned about the most. It is always difficult to tell from the pictures 100% what is going on but Krunch's face and muzzle sure look swollen! I would seek veterinary care as so o as possible in case he is having a severe allergic reaction. Fire ants can certainly trigger an allergic reaction. I would go ahead and give him 1/4 tablet of Benadyl 25mg and get him to your vet for further treatmemt. If left untreated, allergic reactions can turn into anaphylaxis and can be fatal. I hope Krunch gets better!
