My dog was stung by a wasp in the mouth. What should I do now?

If you are not seeing any swelling or irritation then she is likely fine. Occasionally you will see a delayed reaction where swelling can manifest hours later. Just keep an eye on her for the next couple hours.

Poor Grizzly! If he is not wanting to eat then he should be seen by a vet for treatment. Your vet can give him an infection of an anti-histamine and a corticosteroid to help with the swelling and discomfort.

You can proactively give benadryl to hopefully prevent any type of reaction leading to swelling. Bee stings can be serious if the dog happens to be allergic, just like in people - but the vast majority of the time, they don't cause any major problems at all :) Many dogs like to catch bees and swallow them, and I very rarely see any significant issues related to this. If Dutch is acting normal, there should be no cause for concern. Signs of a possible allergic reaction would include facial swelling, difficulty breathing, vomiting, or weakness or collapse. If you see any of these signs, then I would take him to a veterinarian right away. Otherwise, you can just monitor him for the next few hours to make sure everything is okay.

If there is no swelling and if your dog does not experience any vomiting or trouble breathing, the discomfort should go away soon by itself. If Charlie keeps licking the area you can give him 1/2 a children's Benadryl which should take the itch.

She may be having an allergic reaction to the sting. Also, this appears to be causing her pain which may be why she is not eating. Dogs can be allergic to bees and stings will swell. It could be possible that she was stung by a bee, but my answer is still the same, she needs emergency veterinary care now. Swelling from bee stings in the mouth can and do cause the airways to be blocked off, leading to respiratory distress and death. She sounds very ill, and if there was anything you could do at home for her, I would tell you. There honestly isn't, she needs to see a vet right away.
