Why is my Doberman puppy vomiting two weeks after ear/tail surgery?

If xrays and general labwork have been performed already, I would start looking for other possibilities causing this with more advanced diagnostics such as an abdominal ultrasound and GI panel to begin with. Another disease they could investigate is Addison's disease. This would expand the diagnostics to the point of being able to more extensively look into what may be causing this in him. It's certainly possible for dogs to have a mild upset stomach for 12-24 hours after an anesthetic episode, but it would be unusual to see this three days later - especially with such severe symptoms. I would recommend having her rechecked by your veterinarian tomorrow morning, or going to the ER tonight if she seems overly distressed or lethargic. It's possible that she could have a stomach ulcer as a result of the Rimadyl (uncommon, but can happen occasionally even with appropriate dosing), or may have some other problem that may or may not be related to her surgery. It sounds like she needs an exam and likely some lab work +/- x-rays to help determine what's going on and see what kind of treatment is needed.

I would recommend initiating a bland diet as outlined below after withholding food for 8 hours. If the vomiting continues or she worsens sooner, I would recommend having her examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. If she worsens, it is possible that the hole in the skin is due to an insect bite and she is having an allergic reaction. Vomiting and inappetence can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. She may be having side effects to the medications administered. Hair loss and scratching are likely due to allergies. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Shelby evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid she is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check her hydration status and give her medications to make her feel better. Good luck!

Tommy is thin and this may be related to the vomiting but it’s impossible to know without being able to examine him. There are many possible causes which could be causing the vomiting and constipation. I recommend to have him examined by his veterinarian. Bring in a fece sample to check for worms, coccidia and giardia. Parasites can cause vomiting and being too thin. You should also have his blood work checked for kidney disease and pancreatic insufficiency. Review his vaccine record to know if this could be a virus like parvo or distemper. Lastly, your veterinarian may also recommend an x-ray or ultrasound to check for a foreign object causing a partial obstruction. You should be feeding Tommy a bland diet for now of boiled white meat chicken (25%) and plain boiled white rice (75%). Feed him smaller, more frequent meals. Your vet may also look into a diet trial to rule out IBS. I hope this helps and best of luck.
