My dog threw up after a picked scab and Neosporin. Is she sick?

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkipoo | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

My husband picked a scab off my Yorkie poo last night and it left a little hole. We put Neosporin on it a couple of times today and she acted fine. Now she is acting quiet and just threw up. Should I be concerned

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. This is likely nothing to do with the neosporin that you put on the wound. I would recommend initiating a bland diet as outlined below after withholding food for 8 hours. If the vomiting continues or she worsens sooner, I would recommend having her examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. If she worsens, it is possible that the hole in the skin is due to an insect bite and she is having an allergic reaction. If she is worsening, I would recommend getting her examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! Vomiting and inappetence can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. She may be having side effects to the medications administered. Hair loss and scratching are likely due to allergies. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Shelby evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid she is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check her hydration status and give her medications to make her feel better. Good luck!

My dog vomited a week after spay surgery. Should I be concerned?

The wound looks quite healthy but there is a small amount of not completely clear discharge coming out from it. I cannot see any skin sutures as well. I would recommend an immediate check up to determine if skin sutures were removed accidentally (by licking it). Antibiotics (local) may be needed. Why is my puppy throwing up food and eating it after vaccinations?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Amaya. She may have an upset stomach. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If she refuses to eat the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Why is my dog sick with diarrhea and vomiting after antibiotics?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. It sounds as though Pachu is not tolerating the antibiotics. I would contact the veterinarian to discuss other options for treating the skin infection. If the skin infection is not bad, then the use of oral antibiotics may not be needed. I always try to treat mild skin infections with topical therapy alone and get very good success in doing so. If Pachu is dehydrated from the vomiting / diarrhea he may need hydration therapy to help with that. I hope this helps!

It is possible that these symptoms are unrelated to the antibiotics, but you definitely did the right thing by stopping to give them to her. You can monitor her throughout the night, and offer water only. If you are concerned that Stormy is getting worse throughout the night, you can have her evaluated by an emergency vet. Dog throwing up foamy yellow bile with blood after allergy meds?

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I highly recommend that you have Tack evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Sometimes blood in the vomit can be seen with things like gastrointestinal ulceration which can occur secondary to medications, especially prednisone which is a commonly used medication for allergies. If this seems like a possibility, they would start her on medications for an ulcer. Good luck! I am keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!
