My dog is vomiting and chasing tail 5 days after spay. Is it serious?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labradoodle | Female | spayed | 4 months and 18 days old | 40 lbs

My dog just got spayed five days ago and got her umbilical hernia removed as well. In the middle of the night she threw up and has continued to vomit this morning. Also, my dog has started to chase her own tail. Does my dog have infected stitches?

Without seeing the incision I cannot say if the incision is infected. You can always upload up to 3 pictures when submitting a question. I would recommend a veterinarian. Laney most likely got into something or if she is taking medication for pain it can be upsetting her stomach. Please talk to your veterinarian. It's hard to tell if it is infected, it looks wet and whipping which could be a sign of infection, i'm not sure if the vomiting is related or not but you should contact your vet ASAP in order to make sure she gets the treatment she needs.
