Is aloe vera dog shampoo safe for my 3-week-old puppy if it's not puppy shampoo?

Coco will likely be just fine as long as this was a flea shampoo intended for dogs, and none of it got into his eyes. I recommend drying him gently with a towel and ensuring he stays warm enough. If he stops eating or drinking, or begins showing any unusual clinical signs such as wobbliness, trembling, or seizures, or he starts squinting his eyes, he should be seen by a veterinarian right away. I wouldn't recommend adding either of these essential oils to your pets shampoo because they don't provide any health benefits for your dog. Also there is no literature to suggest what is a safe dosage that can be applied to your pet, if at all. If your pet has some skin condition then I would encourage buying a shampoo that is already formulated and tested as safe for Boovs to have. The Duoxo shampoo line (available on line through amazon.com) is a safe and effective alternative that can help if Boovs has a certain skin condition. If he doesn't have a skin condition then a regular over the counter aloe based or oatmeal based puppy shampoo is adequate. The haircoat is most affected by what the pet eats than what is applied topically. Feeding a high quality puppy food such as Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Evo, or Eukanuba are best. Oatmeal shampoo is a great shampoo for dogs. I would recommend using this. I don't know what type of breed she is but this shampoo is good for any breed. I would just make sure it is for dogs, since human shampoo can dry out a dogs skin. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Other than the last ingredient (dye- probably in minuscule amounts since its last on the list), this product appears to be made entirely from plant extracts and I would indeed call it “natural”.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is not a good idea to use flea products off label, as they can be very dangerous. However, if you are going to see problems with it, then the puppy should already be tremoring or shaking. If you haven't seen any issues in the first 48 hours then it is very unlikely to see any concerns. There aren't any long-term effects. I would just monitor for now. Best of luck with your new puppy!

If he’s washed Milli over and over, he’s likely gotten all the shampoo off. Have him take her and her puppies into a vet in the morning for a health check to be safe. Best of luck.

You do not need to use shampoo. Poop is water soluble and will wash off just with luke warm water. If you want to get rid of any residual smell, wash off the poop with water first and then take a very small amount of doggie or baby shampoo , spread it on your hands and then rub it on your puppy and immediately rinse the puppy.. This should work. Only wash your puppy when it is soiled with poop or similar horrible things. No need to wash it regularly.
