Is oatmeal aloe shampoo good for my dog? What's the best shampoo for her breed?

It depends on what you are using the shampoo for. If it is just maintenance baths I recommend an oatmeal based pet shampoo. You can get one at any pet store. Do not use a human shampoo as you can dry out their skin. If Honey is having a skin problem I recommend a shampo from a veterinarian, depending on the issue. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There are parts of the Aloe Vera plant that is toxic to animals. If the shampoo is made for dogs and cats it should be fine for puppies. If you are unsure then use an oatmeal based shampoo or just use Dawn dish soap. I hope this helps!

Use a pet shampoo that is oatmeal based. if you can find the accompanying conditioner, this would help as well. also, start Coco on an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this will help improve the skin's health. Please feel free to post any additional questions.

I use different shampoos depending on the coat. If he’s a GSD with oily skin I use an anti seborrhea shampoo. If his skin is dry or itchy I use a mild hypoallergenic shampoo. If he’s had skin infections I recommend a medicated shampoo. I often have several shampoos around and adjust them depending on his coat condition at the time of bathing. I wouldn't recommend adding either of these essential oils to your pets shampoo because they don't provide any health benefits for your dog. Also there is no literature to suggest what is a safe dosage that can be applied to your pet, if at all. If your pet has some skin condition then I would encourage buying a shampoo that is already formulated and tested as safe for Boovs to have. The Duoxo shampoo line (available on line through amazon.com) is a safe and effective alternative that can help if Boovs has a certain skin condition. If he doesn't have a skin condition then a regular over the counter aloe based or oatmeal based puppy shampoo is adequate. The haircoat is most affected by what the pet eats than what is applied topically. Feeding a high quality puppy food such as Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Evo, or Eukanuba are best. Hylyt shampoo may be helpful in a dog with atopic dermatitis. My preference is a shampoo and creme rinse called Epi-Soothe which contains colloidal oatmeal. We use the shampoo followed by the creme rinse. This will be need to be used in conjunction with other treatments in most cases of atopy. All of the brands you listed are good shampoos. Duoxo is one of my go to shampoos but many are equivalent. A chlorhexadine/ketoconazole shampoo helps treat yeast and bacteria. The main thing is to lather Sibyl up and allow the lather to soak for 20 minutes or so before rinsing. If needed you can bathe every 2-3 days. I also recommend an oral omega 3 supplement such as Derm Caps. Remember if you use topical flea or heart worm prevention the medicated shampoos will strip it out.
