Is my 9-week-old puppy eating too much? How often should I feed him?

Ideally he should be fed three times daily up to six months with a good quality commercial diet, which provides a nutritionally balanced diet. Royal Canin and Hills both provide good quality food. After six months feed can be decreased to 2 times daily.

Hello. At this age, a puppy should be fed 3 times a day with limited treats. You can transition him to twice a day feedings somewhere between 16 - 20 weeks of age. As long as the food you choose is a well-balanced puppy food, such as Science Diet, Royal Canin or Purina, you can continue to feed Roman the canned, or a combination of canned & dry. Yes, this is fine. Puppies often poop multiple times a day, and it's important that Panda is fed according to the Iams package instructions. A puppy's food should not be decreased, and I would keep feeding him according to the package instructions.

Sometimes puppies will defecate more frequently if they are excited. I recommend keeping a close eye on Buzoo's bowel movements - he should be seen by a vet if you notice that the stool is loose, has mucus or blood in it, or begins vomiting. My first comment is that if Mocca has not been dewormed yet, I would do so because worms can cause a bloated abdomen and abdominal discomfort. If that’s already been taken care of, then yes, I agree she looks a bit full. Some puppies will eat everything you give them, even if it’s more than they really need. Beagles are a breed that are known for this. As such, I’d say just decrease your amount. Aim for the middle of that recommendation- about 145gm per day or about 45-50 gm per feeding. If that is still too much for her, drop to about 35 Gm per feeding. If she is not gaining weight or is looking too thin on these smaller amounts, your vet will likely just recommend feeding the small amount 4 times daily instead of 3 times daily. Yes it is likely the extra fiber. No worries here whatsoever. Some puppies do poop quite a bit and 2-3 times a day is normal as long as the poop is solid. I would however, but back on the daily egg, since this is mostly just added carbs for pets and can lead to her getting overweight. Best wishes with your puppy Tasha. Take care.
