Why is my 6-month-old kitten in heat again so soon after her last?

It's very possible that she might be - most female cats will go into heat by around 6 months of age, and this will certainly attract males to the area. I would recommend having her spayed if you aren't planning to breed her, as she will be in heat almost constantly until this is done.

They usually go into heat every few weeks if they aren't mated so this is definitely possible. If you don't want her to have another heat cycle, you could talk to your vet about inducing ovulation to help her go out of heat but this isn't always recommend depending on the patient, or you could have her spayed if you don't plan to breed her. Cats are seasonally polyestrus which means that they continually go in and out of heat during breeding season. Normally breeding season starts in January, so Midnight is just a little ahead of the curve. If she doesn't mate while in heat, then she may go out of heat for and come back into heat 1-2 weeks later. She may continue to come back into heat every couple of weeks during the breeding season (January-September) until she is bred. I hope this helps!

Cats are often going into heat within 2 weeks after weaning the kittens. The discharge is called lochia and can last several weeks after the kittens are born. I recommend spaying these cats right around the time the kittens are weaned, or within that 2 week period after, to insure they do not get bred again. Then you won't have to worry about Shadow having another litter.

Yes, she will because female cats ovulate just when they mate, so the chances of her getting pregnant when mating is close to 100%. The way to prevent pregnancy is to have her spayed, if not keep her indoors and spay any males that could come in contact with her. Male surgery is normally less invasive and cheaper and perhaps something to consider if kittens are newborns.In 6 weeks time you could have her neutered. She could also be neutered sooner if really necessary, but it is a bit more risky in terms of surgery for herself and for the kittens. Hope this helps !
