Can I vaccinate my 4-month kitten if he has vomiting & diarrhea?

If you have no proof of vaccines it is best to do then to know he is protected. A rabies vaccine would be due along with a panleukopenia and respiratory virus combination (fvrcp). This one will need to be boostered 4 weeks after the first then you can go to every 3 years. You can change his diet to a sensitive stomach or even just boiled shredded chicken to help until you get him seen. You want to pick up a dewormer and probiotic at a pet store to also help

It is not a typical reaction to the feline distemper vaccine. If he is otherwise acting fine then you could withhold food for 12 hours and see if the vomiting and diarrhea resolves. If not, he should be rechecked by your veterinarian to determine the cause and treat. Your veterinarian can prescribe medications to help control the vomiting and diarrhea. Your vet can test a stool sample for parasites and then prescribe a dewormer, if needed. If he is lethargic then he should be examined as soon as possible. Hope he feels better soon.

As long as Maki is improving and no longer sick, she can receive vaccinations. However, she needs to be around 6-8 weeks old to receive her first vaccinations. If Mochi truly had Panleukopenia Virus this spring, then it is extremely unlikely he would ever get it again. However, that doesn't mean he couldn't get some other virus or bacteria that could cause vomiting and diarrhea. If you changed his diet before the vomiting and diarrhea started, then it may be the food switch. You may have changed foods too suddenly and caused an upset stomach, or Mochi may have a dietary intolerance of food allergy to the new food. Other possible causes for diarrhea and vomiting include stress colitis, IBD, GI blockage, intestinal parasites, among a few other things. If the vomiting and diarrhea persist for longer than 24 hours, or if Mochi develops a poor appetite or lethargy, then he should be evaluated by a veterinarian.

Animals vaccinated with a live vaccine can develop mild symptoms and shedding for a short while in the minority of cases, but inactive vaccines would not have this effect. There are many possible causes of viral and bacterial diarrhea and i would recommend testing stools parvo in affected cases if you are concerned

Poor kitty. Vomiting and diarrhea in a such a young kitty can be caused by a bacterial or viral infection in most cases. If kitty gets into things it can also be causaed by a foreign body ingestion. I would highly recommend taking this fur ball to your local vet for a thorough check up and medications to stop the vomtiing and potentially antibiotics may be needed.. I don't think the diarrhea has anything to do with the upper respiratory infection. I would recommend that you call the vet. They may want to test for intestinal parasites or may be concerned about a different bacteria or virus causing the diarrhea. I wouldn't change any food right now, since a sudden change may make the diarrhea worse. If he develops vomiting, decreased appetite, or lethargy, I would definitely have him checked out by the vet.
