My vaccinated cat has diarrhea; can it still be panleukopenia?

If Mochi truly had Panleukopenia Virus this spring, then it is extremely unlikely he would ever get it again. However, that doesn't mean he couldn't get some other virus or bacteria that could cause vomiting and diarrhea. If you changed his diet before the vomiting and diarrhea started, then it may be the food switch. You may have changed foods too suddenly and caused an upset stomach, or Mochi may have a dietary intolerance of food allergy to the new food. Other possible causes for diarrhea and vomiting include stress colitis, IBD, GI blockage, intestinal parasites, among a few other things. If the vomiting and diarrhea persist for longer than 24 hours, or if Mochi develops a poor appetite or lethargy, then he should be evaluated by a veterinarian.

It's possible, but the panleukopenia virus, although from the same genus as the Parvo virus, is not exactly the same so he didn't catch him from your dog. nevertheless you need to take him to the vet in order to get it checked and treated ASAP.

It sounds as your cat is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection (could be parvo). it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Hello, Evee will not contract panleukopenia. A false positive indicates that the car does not have panleukopenia and therefore should not be shedding the virus in his or her feces. Your cat is also vaccinated so Evee should have antibodies to help fight an infection off. Finally, panleukopenia is mainly a disease of kittens, so if Evee is an adult to mature cat then the likely good that she can contract the disease is much lower. Hope this helps

Hi, I'm sorry to hear Panda is having problems. Vomiting and diarrhea can be something simple like sensitivity to food or something more serious like a disease called panleukopenia. Vomiting and diarrhea is never normal in a kitten and should be investigated by a vet. Once the vet gets him healthy, then he can get his vaccines. he will need his FVRCP vaccine (which usually starts at 3 months), then a booster vaccine three weeks from that date. Panleukopenia is a feline parvovirus. They don't make a direct test for it but most clinics use the canine parvovirus test to get a result. False positives are very rare, occurring only in about 0-6% of tested samples. Vaccine induced positives are also rare with about only 1/64 recently vaccinated kittens testing positive. This is with the IDEXX brand test. Other brands had a higher rate of positive results following vaccination. So, without more information as to what test your vet used and how long ago she was vaccinated and with what vaccine (if she was even vaccinated) it is difficult for me to say much on the subject. These signs may be related to the vaccine, but it is definitively hard to prove. If that was the case the signs would be usually self limiting and resolving. Given the persistency and severity of the signs I would recommend a check up anyway. The second possibility is that the gastrointestinal system is affected by an infection, who got worse with the vaccine. It could happen that the infection was in a sub clinical stage before vaccination, not showing any sign at physical examination.
