How to stop my cat from going to parents' house for food and shelter?

The best thing you can do to cut down on Oliver’s interest in roaming is to neuter him and keep him inside at all times if it is feasible. If you do want him to be an indoor/outdoor cat then I would not worry too much about him missing his meals. He may be hunting while outside and/or being feed by others while he is out. As long as you consistently offer him food at your home he will always come back. I would not recommend leaving his food outside though, as this could cause you to have unwanted visitors, like stray cats and wild animals, at your home. Keep in mind that if you continue to allow Oliver access to the outside he will need certain vaccinations to keep him from contracting other diseases. I hope this helps. This will depend on whether you want your kitty to be an indoor only cat or an indoor/outdoor cat. If you do not want him an outside cat you will just have to bear with it. He will eventually stop wanting to go out. You can also make a cat enclosure outside, so he can get at least the illusion of being outside. If you don't mind that your kitty goes outside, you can take him out for a walk in the yard or garden and then bring him in again. extend the trips every day. Make sure you do not free feed him then, but feed him canned food in the morning and evening calling him by name. That way he will come home when you call him. Make sure he stays inside at night.

I am not sure that I understand your question. There is not one type of food that will make Jerry hang around the house and not leave. Additionally, if Jerry is not neutered, this will generally result in extensive roaming behavior. I recommend to have him neutered and this may help him to stay around the house more but it is all dependent upon his personality. Please feel free to post any additional questions.

It is great you are thinking of Ketty's safety at night! I agree, that being out at night is typically not necessary and can lead to fight wounds, etc. Unfortunately you will probably not be able to have him WANT to stay in at night. Usually the best thing to do is feed him dinner and keep him in after, even if he wants to go out. I hope this helps!

You may try leaving tasty treats or very small amounts of food out on the steps/porch and lead them into the house (if you can leave the door open so he walks in. You can also sit quietly outside with something tasty to encourage him to come to you. Be patient and quiet. Most pets will get hungry enough that they will try to over come their fears. Unfortunately if you are planning on keeping him indoor / outdoor, it is very difficult to keep him away from other stray cats. I would recommend ensuring his vaccinations (Feline Leukemia, Rabies and FVRCP) are all up to date to prevent transmission of these diseases. There are motion activated sprinklers you can get that will startle cats and keep them away from your property and you can find these online quite easily. Really, keeping him indoors is the only 100% way to keep him away from stray cats. I hope this helps!
