My female cat was fixed, but now she seems pregnant. Is this possible?

If your male cat is neutered then he would not be able to Rupert pregnant, although in some very rare situations a small piece of testicular tissue is left behind and in this case it might be possible. Cat's don't typically show any symptoms with false pregnancy like mammary gland development or uterine enlargement. I think you should take her to your veterinarian for an exam to help determine whether or not she is pregnant. If you are not planning to breed her you may want to discuss spay surgery.

Hello. After being fixed, there is no way she can become pregnant. She is maturing, & since she needs fewer calories, you may need to cut back on the amount of food she gets each day. If Baby Girl was spayed there is no way for her to get pregnant - the ovaries and uterus are removed in a spay surgery. I would recommend having her examined by your vet: it’s possible that she has a medical problem that has caused abdominal distention. It’s also possible that she has simply gained weight since the surgery - spayed cats have a slower metabolism and tend to be less active so they require fewer calories.

It is not possible for a spayed female dog to become pregnant, because the spay procedure involves complete removal of the ovaries and uterus. So if your dog became pregnant, then she was never spayed. This is when a small piece of ovarian tissue is accidentally left inside the abdomen during neutering. If Holly continues to show heat symptoms, she would need another surgery to remove the remaining ovarian tissue from the abdomen.

It is possible for her to be having a false pregnancy. It is more common in dogs, but cats can have them as well. If you are not planning on breeding her it is best to have her spayed. False pregnancies can turn into a uterine infection (pyometra) which can be life threatening.
