My cat shows pregnancy signs, male neutered. Is it real or false?

False pregnancy symptoms can be nearly identical to actual pregnancy symptoms, so it can be hard to tell if she truly is pregnant just my physical appearance alone. If another week goes by and Linnie doesn't produce any kittens, I would see you local veterinarian. They may preform an ultrasound and run some blood work to rule out other more serious conditions (like a uterine infection) and/or confirm either a pregnancy or false pregnancy. The 60 day gestation is simply an estimate and can be shorter or longer depending on when exactly she was bred. If it is a false pregnancy, the exact cause may be hard to determine, however, false pregnancies can be related to a hormone imbalance she has along with being mated with an infertile male. After mating with an infertile male, she will ovulate and produce hormones required for pregnancy without actually conceiving. It is possible for her to be having a false pregnancy. It is more common in dogs, but cats can have them as well. If you are not planning on breeding her it is best to have her spayed. False pregnancies can turn into a uterine infection (pyometra) which can be life threatening.

It sounds as though Knox is exhibiting signs of a false pregnancy. Since she was spayed last month, it is not possible for her to actually become pregnant. Rarely, a portion of ovarian tissue (referred to as ovarian remnant syndrome) can remain after a spay, which then produces hormones and can cause signs of heat and possible pregnancy. I do recommend taking Knox to her vet for an exam and to consider blood hormone levels to determine if ovarian remnant syndrome is suspected. Great question! If Luna is currently mating, then no she is not pregnant. Cats will only mate when they are in heat. It could be that she has recently gained weight, and that is causing her belly to get bigger. There is a rare condition in cats called a false pregnancy, which is where a cat shows signs of being pregnant without being pregnant, but again as I said that is rare in cats. It could be a remote possibility however. Given that she is now mating again, I would say she isn't pregnant. I hope this helps!
