Why does my senior cat have a red eye growth affecting his vision?

I'm sorry but it is very difficult to assess eye problems with regular photos. The use of an ophthalmoscope, slit lamp, etc to look into the eye is best. It sounds like that has been done and an ophthalmologist exam would be best. All I think I see in this photo is a dark area above the pupil that would worry me about iris melanoma but again, I can't really tell much from a photo. There are too many possibilities as to what could be going on. An ophthalmologist will be able to help better as this is their area of expertise. You may be seeing corneal edema or lipid deposits in Marley's eyes, or he may have glaucoma or a corneal ulcer. Posting a picture along with your question might help us narrow down what might be causing this. Even though they don't seem to bother him a growth on the eye is concerning and ultimately I think it would be a good idea to have your veterinarian examine him.

Hello. In terms of your cats, the first one with the eye getting bigger than the other really needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible. Glaucoma is a very serious condition and in order to not lose vision in the eye you want to treat it right away. This is also a very painful condition. The other cat, with a bump that looks like a zit, could just be a sebaceous cyst. It is always best to get it checked out, however if it isn't growing or changing, or causing your cat issues, you can monitor it for now and have it seen at your next appointment with your vet. Oh my. This appears to possibly be an injury to the eye and subsequent infection. It is hard to tell the degree of injury based on the photos, a vet exam is definitely needed her. I would highly recommend taking Mow to your local vet right away to get this eye tested, fully examined and treated. Best case scenario is that there isn't permanent damage done to this eye and antibiotics/pain medication /- drainage of a potential abscess are needed to get Mow better. Yes, I think he should see a vet. Eyes are very delicate organs and can go from bad to worse quickly. If you would like to post again with a photo we can maybe help more but really, he needs to the vet to check the eye with an ophthalmoscope.

With the description of the lesion changing quickly and how it looks, I'm concerned this is either ringworm (which humans can get) or a bacterial infection. I recommend to get Smokey into the veterinarian this week. They may want to test him for ringworm. I suspect he'll get some type of medication as well. At home you should have him wear an elizabethan collar at all times. You can purchase one of these at almost any pet store. Avoid touching that lesion. If you do, wash your hands really well with soap and water afterwards. You may consider isolating Smokey to one area in the house until you know it's not ringworm. Once a pet has ringworm, any place it hangs out needs to be thoroughly cleaned several times to remove the fungal spores. Since the lump seems to be changing the orientation of his eye, this indicates that it is either occupying space within his skull or is putting pressure on the cranial nerves going to the eye. Possible causes of lesion include a benign or malignant mass, abscess, fungal infection, among others. Even though Sunny seems comfortable, this type of lesion is likely causing some degree of discomfort or pain. Animals are generally pretty good at masking signs of pain as a natural defense mechanism. At this point, I recommend taking Sunny to his vet for evaluation and treatment of the underlying issue.
