My cat's eye is weeping with pus and a lump appeared. Is it serious?

A cat has puss weeping from eye and a lump has appeared above the eye and between both eyes.

Oh my. This appears to possibly be an injury to the eye and subsequent infection. It is hard to tell the degree of injury based on the photos, a vet exam is definitely needed her. I would highly recommend taking Mow to your local vet right away to get this eye tested, fully examined and treated. Best case scenario is that there isn't permanent damage done to this eye and antibiotics/pain medication /- drainage of a potential abscess are needed to get Mow better. Hi, and thanks for your question.
That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well.

She may have an ulcer or scratch in her cornea. These can be painful and cause the discharge and inabukity to open the eye. The sooner her eye gets checked by a vet and started in antibiotics and pain medicine, the faster she will heal and keep full vision

Yes it sounds like a bad infection, and this is a medical emergency. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take him into a vet now to get this treated.

It appears that your kitty has a so-called cat bite abscess. You should take her temperature and if she has a temperature of over 103F she will need to be seen by your vet and the abscess needs to be drained properly. She will also need antibiotics, If she does not have a fever, the abscess is draining nicely (you can put gentle pressure on it and remove the discharge with a tissue) and does not refill, then it might heal by itself. However since this abscess is close to the eye I strongly recommend you taking Calypso to your vet tomorrow for an exam and treatment.

Why does my cat have watery eye discharge and a lump near its eye?

This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. That lump could represent the site of an infection like a tooth root abscess which could also explain the eye discharge. I highly recommend that you have Simba evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further therapy would be based on the findings. Good luck and best wishes!

Poor Tiger! It sounds like he may have a corneal ulcer or very severe conjunctivitis. Eye conditions can be very painful and can quickly progress to emergencies, so Tiger should be seen by a vet right away, as an ulcer is unlikely to heal on its own. In the meantime, you can get Tiger an E-collar or "cone" to prevent him from scratching the eye and causing further trauma. I hope this helps and that all is well with Tiger!

Yes, I think he should see a vet. Eyes are very delicate organs and can go from bad to worse quickly. If you would like to post again with a photo we can maybe help more but really, he needs to the vet to check the eye with an ophthalmoscope.

Based on the location, this could be a blocked tear duct. It could also be a cyst or a growth. Do not squeeze it. Have her seen by a vet on Monday to have it treated since it has gotten bigger over time. Best of luck.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Maple. Eye problems are considered to be emergency appointments in my opinion. The eyes are very important sense organs and problems with them can spiral out of control quickly which can affect vision and even blind the pet. I would advise that you take Maple to your veterinarian. They will want to get a history, perform an exam, evaluate the eye, and probably want to run some tests. One important test to run is an eye stain that evaluates the surface of the eye known as the cornea. Corneal ulcers, scratches, infections need to be documented before an accurate treatment plan can be discussed. Some eye problems require topical steroid use but if the cornea is damaged, they are NOT to be used since they delay healing of the cornea. So best advise here is get Maple in to see your vet as soon as possible.
