My cat's eye was pink yesterday, now red and swollen. What's wrong?

The pictures are quite dark, so it's not possible to actually see the eye, but this type of case is usually due to a scratch to the outside of the eye, or a foreign body stuck under the eyelid. Scratches to the outside of the eye are not usually easy to see and we often need to apply a special stain to the eye in order to detect it. For now, it's best if you can flush the eye with normal saline. Saline flush can be bought at the pharmacy, or supermarket in the eye care section. Flush the eye 3-4 times daily and gently wipe away the discharge with a warm/moist cotton or cloth. It's also possible that there is an infection in the eye, or conjunctiva that is causing this. Its a bit hard to tell from the photos. It may be a wound that has caused the problem, or its possible he was rubbing his eye if his eye was uncomfortable already, and then he scratched it traumatized the skin there on the inner part of the eye. Put an Ecollar (cone of shame) on him so that he can't scratch at it or rub the eye on the ground, worsening the problem, and get him in to see the vet in the next couple of days.

That sounds serious. I recommend to get Kitty into see the veterinarian today. Fungal infections and trauma are the main things that come to mind although a tumor or a significant reaction to a foreign object in the nose may look like this. That looks like an infection with how red it is and the fur lose. Allergies and skin mites would be other potential causes though less common. There may not be much you can do at home. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for pets, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing her diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. Also protect the area from trauma by having your kitty wear an elizabethan collar at all times. Hi there! I'm sorry to hear about George's troubles. It may be a simple skin infection around the eye, but something else that is always on the diagnosis list for cats is, ringworm. Ringworm is a fungus that can be transferred to people. Therefore, I would bring George in to see his veterinarian, so that he can be tested for that. Other possibilities for lesions like the one George has include, bacterial infections, infections with skin parasites, and even allergies. Start by placing an e-collar or cone on Ichabod to prevent scratching or rubbing. If the eye is infected it is likely painful, this will prompt Him to scratch or rub hiseye. Because eye concerns with cats, such as infections, corneal ulcerations, cataracts and glaucoma, can progress rapidly in I would have him examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the issue. Wow. That looks very sore! I am sorry that Skeeter is having this issue. The appearance of this lesion is very concerning. Many skin conditions can look the same visually so I cannot say exactly what is going on but my first thoughts are that this is either a tumor (cancer) or an eosinophilic plaque. It could also be caused by skin parasites (like mites). Did your vet do any testing on that lesion? I am afraid some more work up is going to be necessary to figure out what is going on and how to treat it. I highly doubt that some antibiotics alone will clear this up. It is not a wound, something else is definitely happening.
