Pregnant cat has reddish stringy discharge. Is it an emergency?

Any discharge which does not progress to full labor and delivery within 2 hours is a medical emergency. It is particularly the concerning that the kittens are not moving, please have her assessed urgently by a vet to rule out dead kittens and serious infection

Please have her checked by a vet as soon as possible as if this is from her vulva this may indicate a miscarriage and an emergency c section may be required. Other possible causes are a prolapse or severe enteritis if from her anus

Hello, at this point, just give her some more time, as long as she does not seem to be in any distress. Milk letdown is often stimulated with uterine contractions & the physical stimulation of the kittens attaching to the nipples. Since I cannot see the actual discharge you are seeing, I cannot say if this is normal cervical secretions or a problem, so if you are very concerned, contact your veterinarian to examine her to make sure she is having a healthy pregnancy. Keep watching her, but do not disturb her. If she does not produce another kitten in about an hour and the red bubble is still there and looks thick, like fleshy tissue, you need to take her and her babies to the vet as she may have a uterine prolapse, which can cause her to die, if it is not reduced.

Hello. As long as she seems to be acting fairly normal, this is probably just a normal discharge as the cervix begins to dilate. She should start delivering kittens in the next 24-48 hours. I think it is safest for Maya to have her examined by a Vet today. They can take an X-ray and be sure she is pregnant and doesn't have a uterine infection. A uterine infection can be life threatening. I wish Maya the very best!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Gaia! I am worried about all that discharge and I recommend taking her to an Emergency hospital. I think that she may need a C-section or there is a bad uterine infection. If the black color is green tinted it may indicate placental separation which is life threatening to the kittens.
