Pregnant cat full term with dark discharge. Does she need a C-section?

I think it is safest for Maya to have her examined by a Vet today. They can take an X-ray and be sure she is pregnant and doesn't have a uterine infection. A uterine infection can be life threatening. I wish Maya the very best!

Hello. As long as she seems to be acting fairly normal, this is probably just a normal discharge as the cervix begins to dilate. She should start delivering kittens in the next 24-48 hours. If not, please see your vet to rule out the possibility of an infection. Hopefully all is normal & Twilight will have a beautiful litter soon. I can certainly understand being worried! It's not normal for a cat to have a brownish fluid discharge, either pregnant or not. If she is pregnant, this can be a sign of a spontaneous abortion, or it can be a pyometra. Either is a medical emergency, and I would take Kiara back into a vet immediately.

The greenish discharge can indicate early separation of the placenta, and it's not considered normal in cats. It could be that one of the kittens could have separated early from its placenta, and I would take Mia into the vet now to get checked up to be safe. Best of luck.

Hello, at this point, just give her some more time, as long as she does not seem to be in any distress. Milk letdown is often stimulated with uterine contractions & the physical stimulation of the kittens attaching to the nipples. Since I cannot see the actual discharge you are seeing, I cannot say if this is normal cervical secretions or a problem, so if you are very concerned, contact your veterinarian to examine her to make sure she is having a healthy pregnancy. Any discharge which does not progress to full labor and delivery within 2 hours is a medical emergency. It is particularly the concerning that the kittens are not moving, please have her assessed urgently by a vet to rule out dead kittens and serious infection
