How warm should a room be for newborn kittens and are other cats safe?

Great question! During the first three weeks of life, kittens are unable to regulate their body temperature, so temperatures less than 27C can lead to hypothermia if their mother does not keep them warm. Usually by seven weeks of age, they can control their body temperature as well as an adult. Given your kittens are just over three weeks, this still may be a little bit cold for them. I would keep the temperature in their room a bit higher until they are closer to seven weeks of age. I hope this helps!

Hello. If the temperature in your spare room is too uncomfortable for you, then it is too hot for your cat. Room temperature of 68 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit are acceptable. Actually, kittens want it warm, very warm. So I would not put them in a cooler room unless they start panting. As long as they have fresh water available. Most cats in temperate climates are feeling cold, which is why they try to spend time in the sun and near fire places. They will be ok in your air conditioned room, but they will seek your body heat, as they might feel cold.

Hello, ideally they kittens should stay with their moms at all times. Unfortunately, the older kittens and their mom, may not get along with he new kittens, and likely wise the newer mom may not approve of the the older kittens. I would recommend at least partitioning off the room for them so that they do not have direct contact with one another. Alternatively, if you have an outdoor shed or bathroom to put the new kittens and mom, that would be ideal as well. Once the kittens are about a month old, then they could begin to socialize and start to wean off their mothers. Hope the helps and best of luck.

Despite them all getting along under normal circumstances doesn't mean their presence during labor won't stress Lovely. When cats are stressed during labor they can delay delivery of the kittens. She should be in a quiet room that is familiar to her. The number of people should be limited. With one person checking on her every few hours. As for after the kittens are born I wouldn't allow the other cats in the room without you. Again just because they get along doesn't mean that one of the cats won't hurt the kittens.
