Can I safely move a feral cat and her kittens from a cramped space?

That is very kind of you to want to help this cat and her kittens! Yes, it is fine to touch them, but I would be careful around Momma. Some female cats can be very possessive of their kittens, and she may act aggressive if you try to move them. I would recommend giving the Humane Society a call, they will have the tools to trap her and her kittens safely.

The kittens are safest confined until 4-5weeks at least and as long as the mother is not distressed and risking injury to the kittens i would keep mother and kittens in a little longer and ensure they are eating solids before left out

Hello, ideally they kittens should stay with their moms at all times. Unfortunately, the older kittens and their mom, may not get along with he new kittens, and likely wise the newer mom may not approve of the the older kittens. I would recommend at least partitioning off the room for them so that they do not have direct contact with one another. Alternatively, if you have an outdoor shed or bathroom to put the new kittens and mom, that would be ideal as well. Because she wants to! Often we set up what we think is the perfect environment for a nursing mother, but she may have other plans. She thinks it is safer or better to have the kittens in a different area. The kittens are also getting older, so they need to start exploring different areas. She may also be preparing them to start weaning, which usually occurs at 5-6 weeks of age.

You can try to pet her if she will let you. She doesn't need milk, she needs water. The kittens should start to be handled more to socialize them, and I would do it slowly and carefully. Interact with them a little bit every day, and increase the time and contact you have with them. If their eyes are open and they are moving around, you can give them toys to play with, and you can interact with them using the toys. When they are around four weeks of age, they can start getting a kitten mush to help them wean. To help them wean and to get used to dry food, I would soak a high quality kitten formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with kitten formula such as KMR to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry kitten food and decrease the amount of water and KMR you use until they are eating the dry kitten food only.

It might really stress her out to be inside if she's never been inside, so I would just leave out food for her, and set up a shelter for her and her kittens. I would try to catch her after the kittens have weaned, and have her spayed. If she will allow it, I would try to handle the kittens to tame them so you can find them homes. I hope this helps!

I would set up a warm bed for them, and put in something like a hot water bottle covered in towels. They are just over four weeks old, and while it's time for them to wean, they are probably better with their mother. If the temperatures keep dropping, however, I would move them indoors.
