Male cat on UTI meds, sick & lethargic. Should I take him back?

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Good hear Teddy is eating and drinking okay and urine and defecation is normal. Sniffing along with lethargy may indicate an upper respiratory infection but could also be a wide variety of any other illnesses. I would recommend Teddy see his veterinarian soon for an exam. Your veterinarian may recommend a course of antibiotics if a respiratory infection is suspected or may recommend x-rays or blood work if another cause is suspected. I hope this helps!

Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I am more concerned about the fact that she is not eating well and that needs to be further addressed as it is unlikely to be due to a urinary tract infection. I recommend that you have Luchadora reevaluated by your veterinarian on Saturday for further assessment and treatment. Keep in mind that if she is not feeling well, they may not proceed with vaccines that day. You may take in a urine sample that day. I would talk to your veterinarian about medication for anxiety for Teddy. Sometimes cats that are very stressed cats can have urination issues and it could all be stress related. I am sorry Teddy is not feeling well. I would recommend taking Teddy to a vet for a good physical exam and some basic blood work. With Teddy being a 7 year old cat it possible he is starting to have thyroid issues, kidney issues or even just arthritis. However with him being an outside cat we do always get concerned about parasites and toxin. A vet visit would be best to determine why Teddy is acting this way and provide proper treatment. hope that helps

Please make sure he is passing urine. As you know male cats can get a urinary blockage that can quickly become life threatening. If he’s not urinating that is a medical emergency so take him in right away to have him checked. Vomiting and lethargy can be a sign also. They can get kidney damage from this too. I'm sorry to hear that Duck is still so uncomfortable! Most cats show significant improvement with respect to their UTI signs within 2 days of antibiotic treatment. Since Duck is still vocalizing in the litter box, his infection may be resistant to the antibiotics being used. I recommend calling his vet because it may be necessary to perform a urine culture to determine to which antibiotics his infection is sensitive. Continue monitoring the size of his urine clumps and go to an ER vet if the clump sizes become significantly smaller or if he stops urinating altogether. I hope that Duck feels better soon!

Hello, sorry to hear about Teddy. Most likely, if these medications are treating a upper respiratory infection then his voice should be back when he is healed. If he is not getting better however, he needs to be seen by his veterinarian again. Hope this helps and best of luck.
