Kitten sneezed while weaning. Did formula get into his lungs?

If she is having upper respiratory signs associated with the inhalation of the water and the milk such as changes in breathing, difficulty swallowing, nasal discharge, weakness, loss of appetite or other changes, please take her into see her veterinarian soon as she may have developed pneumonia from aspirating the liquids. She may need a chest x-ray to confirm this and may need to be on antibiotics for a while. If she appears normal otherwise, just keep an eye on herald take her in if any of the above signs are witnessed.

While you can give milk, it is not necessary if she is on a good diet. The sneezing may be due to an allergy to something in the environment or an upper respiratory infection so if this continues, it would be best to have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It is possible she may have aspirated a small amount into her lungs. Monitor for continued coughing, sneezing, nasal discharge or lethargy. If enough was aspirated, the potential for pneumonia exists. A small syringe should be used instead of a spoon. You can slowly squirt the syrup in the side of her mouth and allow time for swallowing to prevent aspiration.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Pongkoy! Most upper respiratory infections in cats are viral. If the discharge from his nose is clear then you can just monitor him. Hopefully he can clear the viral infection. If he is lethargic, not eating, and/or the discharge changes to yellow or green he would need to see a Veterinarian for antibiotics. I would clear his nose a couple of times a day and you can keep him in a steamy bathroom twice a day for 10-15 mins. Be sure that you start Pongkoys kitten vaccinations in the next 1-2 weeks. As long as his energy level is high, he has good appetite and he does not have any breathing difficulties, you should monitor him at home. Uncomplicated cat flu should go away within 7-10 days. However, if Ember becomes lethargic, off food or the discharge from the nose and eyes turns green / yellow you should take him to your local vets for a check.

Young kittens are very susceptible to upper respiratory infections and the vaccine could have lowered her immunity making the infection more easily acquired. I would call your veterinarian in the morning to get Flynn looked at. He may just have an upper respiratory infection but it can quickly develop into pneumonia.
