My kittens are vomiting all night. Is this an urgent health concern?

Vomiting can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have them evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start them on medications to make them feel better. Hi and thanks for your post! It is hard to say what exactly the issue with Ollie is sight unseen without examining her first, but I can offer a few insights. Parasites, viral infections (especially if not up to date on her core vaccines), dietary indiscretion (eating something other than her normal kitten food) or an intestinal obstruction can all cause vomiting and diarrhea. Hello. Thank you for rescuing this kitten. I would be most concerned about this kitten having an infection & most certainly having a large number of parasites it its gut. Roundworms are especially common in kittens & can cause significant discomfort & diarrhea. It would be best to have the kitten seen as soon as possible as she may need some medical treatment to get her going on the right track. Vomiting can be observed with gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, food sensitivity, foreign body ingestion and obstruction or other conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney disease. I am concerned that she is becoming dehydrated. I do not think this is because of the fish. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hello. I am a little concerned about your kitten because at 4 weeks of age she should be a little fireball & not require stimulation to move her bowels. She should also be eating a canned kitten food with a little replacement milk mixed in. If she has not been dewormed, this would be a priority as intestinal parasites like roundworms can make a kitten pretty weak. She may also be a little dehydrated if you have not seen her urinate. I am afraid it sounds as if Jewel has picked up an infection, or she is just worn out from nursing & cleaning up after the kittens. I would not let her nurse the kittens, to decrease contamination if this is contagious, & to prevent a further drain on her resources. It would be best to have her seen by your veterinarian, not only to start treatment for her, if necessary, but to hopefully prevent the kittens from becoming ill. Cats can not go very long before they become even sicker. 3 days without food, & she could be in trouble. The kittens are old enough to eat on their own. Encourage them to do so until you see how Jewel is faring. I hope she is feeling better soon. Take care.

My concern for Annie is that with and much vomiting and diarrhea and being so young and small is dehydration. Also young thin animals can get low blood sugar if they aren't eating or holding food down. Causes of vomiting and diarrhea in young kittens are parasites, viruses, eating something that didn't agree with them, foreign bodies, toxins, congenital liver problems, etc. Unfortunately, my recommendation is that you take her to the Veterinarian. There isn't any home remedy. In some areas there are local shelters that have veterinary clinics that can be low cost. I wish you and Annie the best.
