My cat had kittens, now she's vomiting, has diarrhea, won't eat. What's wrong?

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is not unusual for animals to have some diarrhea after giving birth. As long as she continues to eat well, this should slowly resolve over the course of the next 3-4 days. If it does not, or if Naughtt develops any other unusual clinical signs, I recommend having her seen by a veterinarian, as an unrelated issue may be present. I hope this is helpful!

I am very concerned about what you describe especially being just 2-3 weeks postpartum. I worry that she may have a uterine infection, a retained fetus, or a possibly mastitis. Hello. I am sorry that Binx isn't feeling well. It sounds like Binx is very sick. If she isn't wanting to eat or drink then she could have a retained baby inside that is rotting and making her sick. That would be the biggest concern, and is fatal if untreated. The other kittens dying could also mean that she has a problem with her milk, or a virus, and this could be making Binx sick as well. I would strongly recommend taking Binx and the two survivors to the vet as soon as possible to be assessed. Good luck with Binx.

Loss of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Miu reevaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as she has not improved in the treatments they have recommended so far. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Cutee! From your pictures and description Cutee is very sick. I don't understand why you think the Vets in your area do not care about animals. I would ask your neighbors and friends who they like for their pets Vet care and use that hospital. Sadly Cutee needs to see a Veterinarian. Without examining Cutee and establishing a Veterinary Client Patient Relationship it is against the law for us to diagnose and prescribe medications. Cutee needs an exam, fecal test for worms, a belly X-rays, blood work and likely hospitalization to pull her through this. All you can do at home is keep her safe and warm. You can try kitten milk replacer and bottle feed her. Though if she is over 3-4 weeks old kitten food is fine. She is going to become dehydrated, if she isn't already, if she isn't eating or holding anything down. I am very sorry but what Cutee needs to be seen and examine by a Vet to obtain a diagnosis and receive treatment. I wish you both the best!

Hi and thanks for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is hard to say exactly without seeing the kittens first for an exam, but I can certainly offer some insights. If they have not been vaccinated, it may be something infectious such as pankleukopenia which is viral infection. Ingesting a toxin or a parasitic infection could also be possibilities. Vomiting all night for 6 week old kittens is a very serious concern as kittens that young are very susceptible to dehydration from the vomiting and that can sometimes be fatal if not treated. My best advice is to take the kittens into your veterinarian as soon as possible for treatment and so a diagnosis can be made. Best of luck to you and I hope for a swift recovery!

Vomiting can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have them evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start them on medications to make them feel better.
