My newly adopted kitten is vomiting undigested food. Should I worry?

If the energy level is normal for this kitten and he is acting otherwise fine, I would continue to monitor and maybe syringe feed some water if he is not drinking enough to help prevent dehydration. If he is lethargic and continues to vomit, then I would take him in to be looked at by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. In a young cat, vomiting may be a sign of infectious disease such as a virus, parasites or even a foreign object causing a gastrointestinal obstruction. Contact the organization or individual you obtained Beckem from and inquire about his vaccination and deworming status. If he continues to vomit this evening, make an appointment to see a veterinarian as soon as possible. If the condition deteriorate prior to the morning, take him to the nearest veterinary emergency hospital.

Henry is gorgeous! If he is very dull and vomiting a lot you should take him to the vet so he doesn't become very dehydrated. If he still seems quite bright he has likely developed a bit of gastroenteritis with the stress of moving, and all the changes. I would encourage him to drink plenty of water, you can add some tuna juice to it. Don't feed him for 12 hours to let his tummy settle then feed a little bit of kitten food mixed with some rice. Gradually feed him a little more. Make sure he is wormed also. If he isn't picking up within 24 hours take him to the vet.

If he continues to vomit I recommend having a Veterinarian examine him. You can also call and see what food he was eating at Petco. Causes of vomiting: food allergy or intolerance, vaccine reaction, intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections or a foreign body (ate something that is stuck). Vomiting repeatedly in a cat can be a sign of gastritis (he ate something that upset his stomach), a blockage in the GI tract, a toxin, or other diseases of the body including kidneys/liver/diabetes, etc. If Oliver is playing, acting normally and is eating and drinking, I would recommend just feeding him boiled/boneless/skinless chicken breasts and boiled rice in small frequent meals for a few days. If he is eating/pooping normally and the vomiting resolves, it was likely a mild gastritis. If Oliver is weak/tired, not eating, or the vomiting gets worse at all, he needs to go to a vet right away for x-rays to make sure he doesn't have a blockage or a severe gastritis/pancreatitis. If there is a blockage he will die without surgery, so if the vomiting continues get him to a vet right away. Best of luck with Oliver.
