Why is my cat vomiting repeatedly after getting a vaccine?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 4 months and 9 days old | 14 lbs

He's been vomiting it's his 4th time in a few days. We had just given him his last vaccine before it turns annually 5 days ago

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Vomiting repeatedly in a cat can be a sign of gastritis (he ate something that upset his stomach), a blockage in the GI tract, a toxin, or other diseases of the body including kidneys/liver/diabetes, etc. If Oliver is playing, acting normally and is eating and drinking, I would recommend just feeding him boiled/boneless/skinless chicken breasts and boiled rice in small frequent meals for a few days. If he is eating/pooping normally and the vomiting resolves, it was likely a mild gastritis. If Oliver is weak/tired, not eating, or the vomiting gets worse at all, he needs to go to a vet right away for x-rays to make sure he doesn't have a blockage or a severe gastritis/pancreatitis. If there is a blockage he will die without surgery, so if the vomiting continues get him to a vet right away. Best of luck with Oliver.

It sounds as Oliver is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

My cat is coughing and vomiting. What should I do immediately?

Poor Oliver! He could be vomiting due to eating something rotten, a foreign body, a GI illness, a respiratory disease that's causing him to cough so hard he vomits, or heart disease. I'm not sure how many time he's been vomiting, but if it's not multiple times in a short period of time, I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. Should Oliver be vomiting multiple times, then he needs to see a vet as soon as possible. I hope this helps! Home remedy: I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Possible side effects after vaccines include pain at the injection site, lethargy, inappetence, vomiting and general discomfort. This should subside within 1-2 days. The vomiting could certainly be due to other reasons like gastroenteritis. If it does not improve or it worsens, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Otherwise, him will likely start feeling better shortly. Good luck and best wishes!

My cat is sad, sleepy, and vomiting after vaccines. Is this normal?

I am so sorry that your cat Milo is ill following vaccines. These are classic signs for a vaccine reaction, and therefore I recommend having him seen by your vet right away. If you vet is currently not open, then I would consider taking him to your ER vet to make sure he is stable and ok. He will likely get medications (antihistamine +/- steroids) to help combat the reaction. I do hope that your pet Milo is able to make a full and speedy recovery. I would notify your vet about this as soon as you can so that precautions can be taken next year when he is due for his vaccine boosters to help prevent this from happening again. Differentials are many, from vaccine side effects to any gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. The approach must be logic, starting from offering different kind of food. A check up is needed if inappetence lasts for more than 24hours. My kitten threw up after vaccines. Is this normal for kittens?

This can be normal! You can see some vomiting after getting vaccines and given that Faelan only vomited once, I would not be too worried. Plus he sounds like he is otherwise acting normally. I would keep an eye on him and if you see protracted vomiting, diarrhea, signs of an allergic reaction (facial swelling, difficulty breathing, then I would be worried and rush him into an ER vet immediately.
