My kitten throws up cat food. How to transition from baby food?

If when you transition her to canned food she starts vomiting again, I highly recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. One way to try to transition Sassy to a dry food is to gradually decrease the amount of canned food and leave a bowl of the dry food out at all times of possible. Decrease the amount of canned food by 25% every 3-5 days. She will eventually start eating the dry food. It is important to feed her a high quality dry kitten food. I recommend Iams or Royal Canin. The vomiting could be due to many things. Parasites or dietary indiscretion are common in young kittens. I recommend to have her feces checked for worms by her veterinarian. Try feeding smaller, more frequent meals. If Smokey eats fast, try a 'slow feed' bowl to address the issue. Sometimes, switching to a canned food may help. If the vomiting persists or worsens, have him examined by your veterinarian.

It's very likely to be the switch up of food. withhold food for 8 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his old food. If he continues vomiting or is not eating, take him to the vet to get treatment.

Causes of vomiting in kittens are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, ate something causing a blockage, food allergy/intolerance, hairballs or reaction to a new treat/food or table scraps. If Mau is still eating and active I would try to get him on 100% kitten food. Some cats vomit more on canned and vice versa. So have both available. Chicken isn't a balanced diet for a cat. You can also try some laxatone in case he has hairballs. If he stops eating or continues to vomit I would have him rechecked. Sweet little kittens! I'm sorry we weren't able to get to your question sooner. A kitten food is needed for both of them; boiled chicken breast is fine as a part of the diet but shouldn't be the sole food... isn't nutritionally balanced the way a kitten food is. It sounds like they may be eating too much too fast. Try feeding them the soft canned food (no dry food) in small portions more often so that they do not overload. You may have to feed them the solid food 4 times a day, in addition to maybe 2 additional times of the KMR, but you can phase out the baby cat slowly.
