My kitten won't eat, walk, has swollen belly after milk. What to do?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Lily. She will need to see a veterinarian. The symptoms you have described are very worrisome. Cats can actually develop a liver disease if they go too long without eating. The veterinarian will feel her belly and try to determine the source of the knot. She could be pregnant, have a wound under the skin that has become infected forming an abscess or even have a mass in her abdomen. Orphaned kittens at this age have a tough time surviving without their mothers and this kitten appears to be severely affected. The swelling likely indicates low protein levels, which can happen when they don't get enough in their diet and/or they get diarrhea. Unfortunately, their is not much you can do for this at home and would require a transfusion. For now, the best thing you can do is keep her from getting low blood sugar, or too cold. Since she is not eating, it's good to give her a little honey or karo syrup on her gums every two hours. Keep her warm by providing heating and covering her in blankets. I'm sorry to hear your kitten is not doing well. Despite her size and age, I would recommend she be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. The swelling in her leg could be due to infection, a congenital issue, trauma or another underlying issue. She needs to be eating regularly in order to maintain adequate blood sugar levels and grow. It is possible Coco has intestinal parasites. You would need to submit a stool sample to your veterinarian for confirmation. A physical exam would be recommended to rule out other causes. If intestinal parasites are diagnosed, your veterinarian can dispense or administer the appropriate dewormer. It may need to be repeated in 2, 4 and 6 weeks. He should be eating a quality kitten food. Fish alone is not a balanced diet for a growing kitten. Discontinue the milk as well since it may cause stomach upset.

I am not sure if you are referring to vomiting, regurgitation or abdominal discomfort after eating? Three week old kittens are definitely at risk of intestinal parasites and should receive kitten deworming dosed accurately to their weight

Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Make sure what you are feeding the kitten is an appropriate kitten milk replacer. Kittens this young are not able to regulate their temperatures well, so make sure you have her on a heating pad set on low with a towel on top. There should be an area for the kitten to move off if it gets too warm. Make sure you are not overfeeding the kitten. A kitten needs 2 tablespoons ( 30 mls ) per 4 ounces ( 115 grams ) of body weight daily. Divide the daily amount into equal portions for each feeding & fed every 3-4 hours until bedtime. Stimulate the genital area after each meal, but do not be concerned if she does not have a BM each time. You can try feeding her a congee, which is often tolerated by the sickest kittens. Take 1-2 cups chicken broth ( low or no salt added ), add 1/4 cup white rice & a tiny sliver of fresh ginger. Boil for 2 hours. While cooling, add 1 Tbsp good quality protein powder - egg or casein, not soy. Stir together very well. The mix should be a bit thick. Drip into kittens mouth 1/2 - 1 ml at a time. Hopefully she will start to turn around. Just keep at it. Good luck.

Poor baby! He is likely really scared of the new environment and unless you got him from a reputable breeder there is a chance he could be partially feral. Worh time he will likely become more comfortable with you and your other cat but he may never be extremely friendly as that might just be his personality. With his abdomen being swollen, I would definitely have your vet take. Alook st him. Your vet will be able to ensure he is healthy, deworm him if needed and get him up to date on his vaccines. Be patient with him and watch him closely. I hope this helps!
