My newborn orphaned kitten has swollen feet and won't eat. What to do?

I'm sorry to hear your kitten is not doing well. Despite her size and age, I would recommend she be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. The swelling in her leg could be due to infection, a congenital issue, trauma or another underlying issue. She needs to be eating regularly in order to maintain adequate blood sugar levels and grow. I am sorry your Kitty is not feeling well. Unforutnaly with the information you provided it is hard to give really good advice. I would recommend taking her to a vet as soon as possible. If she is young ( under 4-5 weeks) I would recommend bottle feeding her with kitten milk replacer every 2-3 hours. If Kitty is older than this you can take dry kibble and mix with warm water every few hours. I would not recommend giving milk to older kittens because it can upset Kitty's stomach. I would also recommend a good round of deworming . Hope that helps

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Tmii! I think you need to have a Vet come to you or take him to one as soon as possible. Tmii looks critically ill and needs aggressive supportive care. I do not think any at home care will pull him through this unfortunately. Can you call the Vet again and see if he/she can recommend someone to examine Tmii? All you can do is keep him warm, syringe water and canned food slurries gently and give the recommended medications. I wish you and Tmii the best!

I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with the kittens! At 4-weeks they should be starting to get a little interested in wet food, so continuing to try the slurry should help. You can put a little on a spoon or on their noses to see if they will lick it off to encourage them to try it. Keeping the formula warmed and feeding them on their stomachs (in the same position they'd be in when nursing from mom) may also help them recognize you are trying to feed them. If they're not on solid foods yet, they may not have a whole lot in the way of stool production, and any stool they produce may be very liquidy still. It's a good idea to bring them to the vet anyway, especially if orphaned, as they may need to start getting vaccinations sooner to account for the loss of mom's natural antibodies, and your vet can examine them, deworm them, and treat any issues as needed. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor baby! I am worried about the eye. I would get the kitten to a Vet to see if it needs an antibiotic. Sometimes there is a kitten or 2 that doesn't make it not matter how hard we try. If the kitten isn't taking the bottle or nursing you will have to be taught by your vet to tube feed the kitten. Sometimes we never know why some kittens don't thrive: genetic issues, trauma, infections, etc. I wish you the best

My biggest immediate concern would be for intestinal parasites. Most kittens have them, and if she hasn't seen a vet yet and been dewormed, she needs to. She's suffering pretty significant fluid losses for a tiny creature. Make an appointment tomorrow, and bring a stool sample with you, so that the type of parasite can be determined and appropriate treatment started.

It is probably an abscess. You can try soaking the foot in warm epsom salt water for 5 minutes 3 times per day. That may help draw the infection out. Honestly though, most of the time oral antibiotics are also needed to get this to heal up completely. She definitely looks like she does not feel well so if you can eventually get her to a vet that would be really great.
