Why did my kitten suddenly prefer my mom over me for affection?

Halley is still young and likely will show more affectionate behaviors. Hello, some cats can undergo different behaviors and may prefer different people at times. This is typically not associated with anything major. However, there are some diseases that may cause changes in attitude. This includes hyperthyroidism and rarely acromegaly. Other signs with these diseases include increased drinking and urinations, a ravenous appetite, and weight loss. This can be screened with routine bloodwork, so have him evaluated by your veterinarian for these. If normal, other causes could include a different fragrance from perfume, body lotion, or laundry detergent that you could be using. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Cats can be fickle creatures, and they can be very lovely to one person and then switch to another. Given that you have to give Monkie her medication, that's a negative association with you, and I would discuss with your mom both of you taking turns to giving her the medication. It's good that she wants to sleep with you, and if she didn't love you, she wouldn't sleep with you at all. When you give her medication, give her a treat afterwards like some tuna so she associates it as a good thing. Continue to give her a lot of love, she will come around :-)
