Why does my kitten cry and separate me from my boyfriend at night?

These are pretty common behaviors for a young cat. Cats are often nocturnal/playful at night, and the its very rare for cats to greet their people when they come home. As far as following you around, and crying for you when you're gone, you are probably her favorite person! I don't think you have anything to worry about with her. Well, you’re both right. Halley has trained you well! She has figured out that if she cries, you will come and play. But on the other hand, an 8 week old kitten really can be very stressed and upset about being all alone. I’d consider a compromise like keeping her in a little carrier at night in your room. That way she can see and smell you at least. Try to comfort and pet her when she is NOT crying so that she learns that meowing is not the way to get things. Best wishes to you and Halley!

Believe it or not your cat is likely jealous of your new psartner. She is likely used to having all of your attention. It is a difficult situation as you dont want to shut the cat out but likewise this will effect your relationship. You could try getting a feliway diffuser to try and calm the cat, otherwise hopefully with time she should get used to your partner being there.

Cats will often meow or cry when they want attention, and I would guess that this is why they are waking you up in the morning. Some cats are more vocal than others. Licking the pillows could be something that Alani does to soothe herself - some cats will suckle on fabric. If they seem active with normal appetites and litter box habits I wouldn't worry too much about the crying.

She loves you. Cats are, contrary to common opinion, not solitary animals. Cats love their owners, some more , some less and some get so attached that they do not want to be separated from their "mommy". I have one like that too. She always has to be around me and when I am not in sight or away she meows and looks for me (with a sock in her mouth....)

I would continue spending time with her and offer treats. Call her to sit on your lap. Also watch closely to signs she’s getting annoyed: slight flicking of ears, tail wagging that would indicate she doesn’t like how she is being pet. It sounds like you have an active young kitty cat! Well, unfortunately, you are doing many of things I would suggest for you to do already. However, we have not yet exhausted all of our options. It sounds like Ginger is experiencing some level of distress, whether or not its due to separation or a need for attention is very hard to say. I would consider adding some Feliway Diffusers into the home. They can be found on Amazon or at a local pet store. They send out pheromones into the environment that aim to calm the cat. They also make direct sprayers that you can put onto objects or even directly onto the kitty himself. If this sort of thing works, it usually doesn't happen overnight. Another option, which may not be possible and might sound insane, would be getting a second kitty. Ginger just may need a friend to keep her company when you aren't around. There are also pharmaceutical interventions that can be given if what Ginger is experiencing is truly anxiety. A behavioral work up by a trainer or vet at your home would be very helpful in this case just to get a full idea of the entire situation. I hope one of these tips can give you some peace at night.
