My kitten is shaking its head and drooling. Can I treat it at home?

I would be concerned about Zapatitos being nauseas, having infection or trauma inside the mouth or even a toxin if possible exposure. I would recommend taking her to a vet to have a good detailed exam to help narrow down why Zapatitos is hyper salivating. It is important to look under her tongue and make sure string is not attached causing a foreign body. Also you can look in her mouth to make sure you do not see any type of sores. Sometimes cats will chew electrical wires and get burns in the mouth or even have viruses that cause ulcers. All of these things can cause hyper salivation. I think a vet visit is best to help Zapatitos feel better as soon as possible.

It is possible phantom has rabies but very unlikely. Rabies is not a common disease in out domestic animals. I would be concerned about a possible viral or infectious cause of oral pain. Calicivirus can cause oral ulcers and tongue ulcers in young cats. Typically the treatment for viral infections is supportive care and pain management. I would recommend taking Phantom to a vet for a closer exam. Also you can start a lysine supplement to help decrease viral replication. In the mean time you can try and feed wet food. This might be less painful to eat than hard. IT is also possible the hyper salivation and pain is due to an obstruction or nausea. Your vet will help determine the cause and provide proper treatment.

While more common in dogs, saliva mucoceles (sialocele) can happen in cats. This is usually a swelling under the tissue that is caused by a build up of saliva formed by the salivary glands. Depending on the location, if this swelling is bothering your cat, it may cause an increase in drooling, and may irritate your cat where they try to scratch at or shake off the bother. If the sialocele is in a bad location, it may also effect eating and drinking. If you have not already, having your cat examined by your local vet is best. They can determine the location of the problem, and may recommend treatment depending on its severity, location and if it is causing symptoms. If your cat seems very bothered by it, then treatment may be needed. Poor kitten! Excessive drooling like that can definitely be caused by nausea, as well as irritation of the mouth, throat, nose, or stomach. Getting into something potentially toxic or bad tasting, flea and tick treatments for dogs accidentally used on cats, or underlying illness can also cause foaming like this. I would definitely take him to another vet ASAP since it is so severe.

I would be more concerned that Loki's symptoms are from hitting his head. Head trauma can be very serious in cats, and in this case, the best thing to do is have him seen by a vet immediately. He needs to be evaluated to see if he does have head trauma, and he may need to be treated for it. Please take him into a vet now.

If she didn't like the oral medicine, it could have caused her to drool heavily and twitch her head some, but of course without seeing her myself, it is difficult to say for sure. Since she is currently being treated for her eye, I would strongly recommend to have your vet take a look at her to see if there is any concern and if there is anything they can do for her. She could have something stuck in her mouth or under her tongue especially since you know she chewed on the blind or she could have gotten a hold of something else. If the Vet just finds a wound then they can provide pain medications and antibiotics. I wish you the best!
